So thankful to have shared so much of my life with Mary Dell. Since 1970, every milestone and special memory was celebrated with the entire Smith Family...my second family. College, ski trips, our wedding, babies, Doug and Kim's wedding, grandbabies, Amy and Elliott's wedding, our daughters weddings, more babies, Alpha Chi reunions, Christmas get togethers, loss of parents, Aggie connections, and much more. She was there for it all and my "go to person" for everything. Her special friendship was a blessing and I will forever be grateful. Thank you Lee D and kids for letting me and my family be a part of your family.  We will miss her always.

Mary was like a second mom to me. I couldn't have made it through college without her. She was always quick to lend a hand, give out advice, share her home, and most importantly open up her heart!  She was a wonderful woman and she will be greatly missed!

After 52 years  together we are family. My mind just whirls with all the things we have done together. But one that comes to mind was when Dwight's Scout Troop had a pie plate rally. For some reason we decided to do it. It was a timed event. Nuf said.  We jumped into the MG, me with directions and Mary Dell behind the wheel. Actually I think we did find 3 plates. But we had a ball and laughed our heads off. luv ya

Mary Dell will always be in my heart. She was a very close friend and,as an only child,I felt she was like the sister I never had. For many years we were in a bridge club, a book club, and a Bible Study together. I will always remember and cherish our weekly Thursday night dinner out together.I will forever miss her.

We will always cherish and remember Mary Dell's "March of the Santa's" during the holiday season, and of course her love of margaritas! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

My dear Uncle Dwight, Amy, Doug and family. May God bless you with the peace that passes understanding during your time of sorrow. I'm so sorry for the loss of your wife, your mother, your grandmother, your best friend. I remember Aunt Mary Dell as a strong, no-nonsense, genuine and kind individual. Her spinach and apple salad recipe is still my go to favorite at social gatherings.  I was happy to contribute a square to the patch work quilt her friends so lovingly put together for her birthday.  She was a role model of patience, kindness, and love and I see this reflected in the children she loved and raised. May God bless and keep you all.

May God bring comfort to Mary's family at this sad time. I came to know Mary over 10 years ago when a group of ladies came together to form a book club (the Dots).  She was a devoted member of our club and encouraged us to read the Classics. I am so happy I had the privilege to know Mary. She was a fine person and will surely be missed by all who knew her.

"Mrs. Smith" was such a special person. I was so privileged to work closely with her when she was the Rush Advisor and Chapter Advisor for the Alpha Chi chapter at UTA. Many of my most special times were spent with her and Lee and my AXO sisters. I know you will miss her deeply as will so many others. Mary Dell was loved very much.

To Lee and the family, may you be comforted by all the wonderful memories and love from all of us who were blessed to know and work with Mary. I first met her in the AXO Alum group and she was so much fun and devoted to the UTA chapter.  When she called and ask for help you always said yes.  She always encouraged and added a little humor to the experience. Her home was always open to the ladies of Alpha Chi Omega young and Old.

Mary was my Camp Fire Girls leader for 3 years. What a handful we were! She was so patient and calm. She and Lee were kind enough to lead us on many adventures that some of us would never have had otherwise. I wish I had the opportunity to tell her that those were some of the most cherished times of my childhood and that her generosity and selflessness was appreciated.

Mary Dell & I first crossed paths at The University of Oklahoma where we  graduated in 1958.  Eventually we settled down in Arlington with other OU friends, Shirley & Bob Blowers, Marilyn & Charles Davidson, Sue & David Boosa. We raised our children in mostly the same schools & enviornment.   Mary Dell became the alumnae advisor for many years for Alpha Chi Omega at the University of Texas at Arlington.  She later would receive a well deserved  special award & recognition for all the countless hours she spent working with the newly established AXO chapter at UTA.
Currently Mary Dell was playing with our Duplicate Bridge Club so we had the opportunity to see each other on a weekly basis.  We had the opportunity to  develope our friendship & share our grandchildren's  activities.  She has left a void in all our lives & will be sorely missed.
