Martin Arthur (Marty) Hernandez, 57, of Mansfield died peacefully on January 30, 2021 with his family by his side after a hard fought, three month battle with pancreatic cancer. Marty was born on January 25, 1964 in Montebello, CA to Martin S. Hernandez and Dolores Nahrstadt Hernandez.
He grew up in Whittier and La Habra, CA with his sisters, Susan and Linda. His grandparents, and many aunts, uncles and cousins lived nearby. Marty excelled at sports while in school especially football, diving, and wrestling. He was a friend to all and had the ability to bring people from different groups together. He graduated from Sonora High School in 1982 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps soon after.
Marty lost his beloved son, Martin Ross, in 1991 at age 4 to cancer. Soon after, he moved to Texas where he met his wife, Angela, in 1994. They were married in 1997 and welcomed Rachel in 2000 and Kate in 2003.
After working in the IT field for many years, Marty fulfilled a lifelong dream to be a law enforcement officer when in 2008 he completed training as a Customs and Border Protection Officer. He worked at both the Los Angeles and DFW entry ports. Marty was a volunteer coach with Miracle League of DFW and Special Olympics supporting Rachel’s teams.
Marty loved fishing, boating, driving his MGB and working on projects around the house, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially attending his daughters’ sports and activities and regular family trips to the mountains, beach, and Disney.
He was preceded in death by his son, Martin, sister Linda Leos and grandparents Martin and Helen Hernandez and Arthur and Laverne Nahrstadt.
He is survived by his wife, Angela and daughters, Rachel and Kate Middleton, his parents, Martin and Dolores, sister, Susan Allen, her husband Robert, parents in law Gary and Guelda Middleton, sisters and brothers in law Gelynn and Donald Majure and Mark and Ah Middleton, nieces and nephews, Kayla Hernandez, Bryan, Jenna and Breanna Leos, Melyssa Allen, Shelby and Paige Majure, and Narisha and Perry Middleton, great niece Everly Barron, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
