Lorene was born December 23, 1936, in Valliant, Oklahoma. She graduated as Valedictorian from Valliant High School and attended Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma, where she met her eventual husband, Thomas Pipkin of Hartshorne, Oklahoma. They married in Durant on August 17, 1957.
After brief stays in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Coffeyville, Kansas, they relocated to Houston, Texas, in 1960, where they raised their family. While Tom worked in the oil industry until his retirement in 1987, Lorene worked steadily at Public Service Company of Tulsa, Childress Manufacturing, Gal Friday, and Grantham & Company. In 1992, following Tom’s retirement, they moved from Houston to Arlington to be near their children, grandchildren, and other family, and Lorene finished her work career at Johnson & Johnson.
Lorene was baptized into Christ at the Valliant Church of Christ, was a member of Memorial Church of Christ in Houston for 28 years, and Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ in Arlington for almost 30 years, where she worked with Arlington Hearts and Hands and was an active member of the 49ers Ministry. She also volunteered at Mission Printing, Inc., a work of Churches of Christ dedicated to world evangelism by the printed page. She was widely known for her considerable baking skills, including her renowned cherry pie, and was a faithful Christian, devoted wife, mother, Nana, and great grandmother.
Lorene is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Thomas Alvin Pipkin, her father and mother, Clarence Colbert Fowler and Purlor Virginia Bain Fowler, along with her brother, Lloyd Wayne Fowler and wife Stella, and her sister Agnes Mae Fowler Hylton and husband Dean.
