Leon Picard Bomar III passed away on the morning of Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the age of 67. After a two-year-long battle with cancer, he passed away at home surrounded by family, while holding his wife’s hand.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara Bomar; his two daughters, Lindsay Bomar and Lauren Patrick; his sister Kathi Bomar; his two sons-in-law Mario Roa and Shane Patrick; and his vivacious granddaughter Madison Grace Patrick. He also leaves behind a boisterous extended family and loyal group of friends and colleagues.
Leon, or as most knew him, Trip, was born on May 4, 1951 in Jackson, Mississippi to parents Betty and Leon Picard Bomar Jr, who preceded him in death. He moved to Dallas with his parents while in grade school, and graduated from Hillcrest High School. He traveled extensively with his parents and sister during his teen years and early twenties including spending two years in Guam where he learned to surf and scuba dive.
Trip graduated with a bachelors from the University of Houston with a degree in Geography, but began a career in the stock brokerage industry at Clayton Brokerage in Dallas, Texas in 1974. Except for a four-year stint in Little Rock, Arkansas, he spent the majority of his career in Dallas, Texas, ultimately retiring from Wells Fargo Advisors in 2015. During his time at Wells Fargo, he also helped establish and was incredibly passionate about Helping our Heroes, a non-profit that raises money for wounded veterans and their families. A dedicated career man, he always made time to spend with his wife and children, whether supporting their many activities or vacationing in the summers.
Trip would want you to know that his work here on earth is done. When asked in his final days what else he wanted to do or accomplish he said, “Barb and I have had a wonderful life, and we’ve raised two beautiful, strong and independent girls. I’ve done all I set out to accomplish and seen all I’ve wanted to see.”
