Larry Lahoyt Roberts was born on Saturday, June 4, 1936, in Buckeye, Arizona and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
Larry was born to Melton and Ruth Roberts and was the oldest of three children.
Larry graduated from Abilene’s Wylie High School in 1954 where he played football, basketball and ran track. He met the love of his life as a junior in high school and married his high school sweetheart, Bobbye Joyce Tally, on October 6, 1955 in Abilene, Texas. Together they started a family, having three boys all born in Abilene.
While in Abilene Larry worked for Oil Field Electric Company, Econolite Control and Countdown Control Signal. The family moved to San Antonio in 1971 as he took on a career in sales with 3M Traffic and Safety Engineering Products. He received multiple sales recognitions and awards as his career advanced.
In 1975 he was transferred, and the family moved to Arlington, TX and in 1987 he was promoted again and moved to Austin, TX. After retirement in 2014, he and Bobbye moved to Crowley, TX to be closer to their kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Throughout his life Larry was known to be a man of strength, focus and grit. He had a great passion for the outdoors and especially fishing. Fishing was a way to connect with God and a place to connect with his kids, grandkids, family and friends.
A lesser known passion that has impacted and will impact generations of the Roberts family was his writing. Larry wrote and produced a book he titled, “When the World Was Young.” The amazing true story of a boy, who started humbly, dreamed big and provided a foundation for future generations of the Roberts family to live and thrive.
Larry will be remembered for his love and commitment to his family. His heart was to see his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to live intentionally and live out loud. We celebrate that he is with The Lord in heaven on the greatest adventure that lasts forever.
Larry is preceded in death by his wife Bobbye, parents, Melton and Ruth Roberts, and his brother Terry. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sister Meldeene, his son Mike Roberts and wife Susan, son Blake Roberts, son Adam Roberts and wife D’Ann; grandson Paul Roberts, grandson Mason Roberts and wife Dakota, grandson Reagan Roberts and wife Madeline, granddaughter Bailey Roberts; five treasured great grandchildren, Ella Roberts, Karsyn Roberts, Madisyn Roberts, Rubie Roberts and Sutton Roberts.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday January the 5th at 11 AM at Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington, TX.
