Larry Gene Brink was born November 11, 1950 in Spencer, Iowa to Ralph Thomas Brink and Evelyn Inez (Hanson) Brink, and passed away June 23, 2017. He attended Spencer schools until 1967 when the family moved to Dallas, Texas. He graduated from North Dallas High School in 1969 and went on to attend Dallas Baptist College.
One of Larry’s passions was hunting with his well-trained hunting dogs and horses. He trained under an expert near Lake Dallas where he lived and honed his skills. Larry was well regarded as “the dog trainer to go to” in North Texas, and loved competing in field trials with dogs and horses together. He later moved back to Spencer and built a business training and boarding dogs.
Larry fell in love with animals when he was two yeas old and the family adopted a Chihuahua puppy named Penny. Penny was with the family for 18 years. His favorite breeds were German Shepherds, English Setters and an Irish Setter he named Abe who was his constant companion for many years. Upon Abe’s death, his new companion was Norton, a huge German Shepherd who sired many fine shepherds in the North Texas area.
After several years in Spencer, Larry moved back to the Dallas area near his family and purchased a house and acreage just outside of Farmersville. There he enjoyed his many friends who got together often to shoot and to play the guitar on his wonderful front porch. The love of playing and singing was a highlight in his life.
Larry was very much an outdoors man and loved to hunt and do shooting practice. He became an expert marksman and won many shooting contests. Larry rarely talked about himself and didn’t brag about his talents, but his many friends did the bragging for him.
In Texas he worked for Overhead Door, Johnson Equipment Company, and Welborn Garage Door.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Cary Kamradt. He is survived by a brother, Dick Brink (and Lynn) of Arlington, Texas., two sisters, Judy Toft (and Don) of Waynesville, Mo.; Jurene Mitchell of Lewisville, Texas, and eight nieces and nephews.
