Kenneth D. Humphreys, beloved husband and father, went to meet the Lord on November 7, 2022. He was born to Adele Lindsey and George Virgil Humphreys in Hockley County, Texas. He was 88 years old and lived a very full life.
He graduated from Levelland High School in 1952, and married the love of his life, Bonita Claborn, in December 1954. They lived many places in Texas and New Mexico before moving to Mesa, Arizona.
He worked all of his professional life in the retail lumber and building materials business. Twenty of those years for Foxworth-Galbraith Lumber Company, a company he was very proud to be a part of. Ken spent the last nine years of his career as District Manager over their many installations in the state of Arizona.
He was a very active member of Red Mountain United Methodist Church in Mesa, Arizona. After returning to the DFW area to be close to family, he was an active member of St. Barnabas United Methodist Church in Arlington.
Ken was known for his big smile and quick wit. He enjoyed the beach, boating and fishing, especially deep sea, hunting with a group of his close buddies in the Hill country and Davis Mountains and in Alaska when his daughters lived there.
He and his wife loved to travel and did so extensively in their RV, covering most of the 48 contiguous states and Alaska by way of the Alcan through Canada. They took many cruises and went to Greece and Hawall. They loved playing 42 dominoes and cards, and in their younger years they loved dancing. Ken always ended the dance by dipping Bonita, including on their 60th wedding anniversary. Where you found one, the other was there. They were inseparable.
Ken's life centered on his family, church and work. He always took care of his girls (outnumbered as he was!) and teased them. Finally 2 great grandsons came along to love and tease, too.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Gage.
He is survived by his wife, Bonita Humphreys, daughters Kathleen Hardesty, Shannon Grady and son-in-law Dan, granddaughters Syree Kilbourne, Scioban Rumbaugh, Vanessa and Megan VanGunten, six great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
A memorial service for Kenneth will be held Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 2:00 PM at St. Barnabas United Methodist Church, 5011 W. Pleasant Ridge Rd, Arlington, TX 76016.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: St. Barnabas United Methodist Church Mission Fund.
