Judy was born in Greenville, Texas, on January 14, 1942, to Gus Carlton McHam Jr. and Lola Pearl (Lewis) McHam.
Judy was raised in Greenville and was very active in school and loved being a cheerleader in junior and senior high school. As a teenager, Judy loved sewing and won the National Sewing Contest and was flown to New York City by Singer. She would later attend East Texas University in Commerce before marrying Jerry Dan Davis; whom she had been friends with since the 7th grade. They moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1967 and Judy was active throughout her life in her children's education and school activities. She was instrumental in integrating the youth program at First Christian Church. Active in First Christian Church, she made lifelong friends who she treasured to her death.
Judy had a passion for Interior Design working for Ballinger’s as a buyer and designer. She was also the Development Coordinator at the Omniplex, Development Coordinator at A Chance to Change and would later become the Executive Director at A Chance to Change.
Judy and Dan would later move to Spartanburg, South Carolina where Judy began her genealogy research. Judy compiled and published a history on Friendship Baptist Church. They later moved back to Texas to be near their children and grandchildren. At that time, Judy became an active Citizen on Patrol in Arlington, Texas. Judy became passionately involved in Daughter’s of the American Revolution (DAR) at the Fort Worth Chapter. She loved sharing her passion for America, genealogy and gathering more lifelong friends. Judy was always willing to offer a kind word, flash her brilliant smile and find a way to solve problems.
Judy was a positive force to many. Her older brother once wrote: “how awed I am by your ability to forge heart, hands and minds into a unified system and to come up with results that are so lovely, so ‘finished’ to the most minute detail, and so beautifully and carefully thought out.” Judy’s family and friends knew this well.
Judy will be missed by many but the love she gave to us will be lasting. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gus & Lola McHam; brothers, Gus C. McHam, III (Skip) and David A. McHam, Sr.; and her husband, J. Dan Davis (Dan).
Judy is survived by her daughters, Julie A. Davis and Sally Chapman and husband, Seneca Chapman; grandchildren, Matthew Chapman and wife, Addison Chapman, and Samantha Chapman; great- grandchild, Freya Chapman; sister-in-law, Mary T. McHam; niece, Kelley McHam Carlisle; nephew, David A. McHam, Jr.; and great-nephew, John McHam Carlisle.
Judy did not want a memorial service but wanted us all to celebrate her life in our own ways.
