Joni was born July 5, 1929, in Mount Calm, the daughter of John and Geneva Grizzle. Graduating from Hillsboro High School, she was junior favorite, known in the yearbook as a real "hubba hubba" girl! Traveling to Panama with her parents in 1949, there she met and married her soulmate, L.C. "Johnny" Johnson, who wooed and won her heart. Their first child was born in Panama, and their second and third here in Texas. Moving to Arlington in the early 1950s, Joni worked at Sears and the Great Southwest Corp. for many years in personnel and bookkeeping. She retired from the outside workforce to focus on raising their last child in 1972. She was an extremely influential woman, completely devoted to her children and family, yet sewing into the lives of countless friends, making a true difference by giving of herself tirelessly to all who crossed her path. In her later years, she served our Lord by showering love and hospitality to all who passed through the doors at Crossroads Christian Church. Full of personality and spunk, an avid gardener, handywoman and cook, she passed her can-do spirit, her love of all things outdoors, and her genuinely caring nature onto her children and grandchildren. She was the epitome of the saying "Live life to the fullest, and never take anyone or anything for granted." Leaving behind a legacy of both love and laughter, she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Joni was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Johnny, and their son, Brad.
Survivors: Daughters, Barbara Nugent and husband, Matt, and Juli Renois and husband, Randy; grandson, Jake Brandon and bride-to-be, Macey Cantrell; granddaughters, Sabrina Sullivan and husband, David, and Colleen Dolfini; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Tyler; daughter-in-law, Mary Johnson; and many lifelong friends.
