Born March 25, 1936 in Grand Prairie, TX, Jonell was the daughter of Vernon and Donnia (Wallace) Adair. She graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1954. She married Bobby Joe Whaley on May 27, 1954. They had two children: Jay Alton Whaley (1957) and Susan Elaine Whaley (1963-2022).
A Christian and member of Northside Baptist Church, later renamed Lamar Baptist Church in Arlington, TX, Jonell served on several church committees.
Jonell worked alongside husband Bob and his partner Fred Trachier at their co-founded tool services company, WT Grinding & Supply, Inc., managing the company books and payrolls for many years.
After Bob retired, Jonell owned and operated Jo’s Ceramics for several years. Later she immersed herself into quilt making. Jonell was also an avid reader and Elvis fan, enjoyed bowling and game nights with friends and family, cooking and gardening. She loved her poodles and cats.
Jonell “Aunt Nell” is survived by her son Jay and daughter-in-law Diann Coleman-Whaley of Arlington. Grandsons Michael Jay and wife Ashlie Greenlee-Whaley of Mansfield and David Andrew Whaley of Titusville, Florida. Great-grandsons Callan Michael and Andrew Stephen Whaley of Mansfield. Sister Laura Louise Buchert of Grand Prairie and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as friends and caregivers.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Bob; grandson Stephen Joe Whaley; daughter Susan, and brother Don Adair.
