John Houston Latimer passed away December 4, 2021. He was born on August 17, 1941 to the parentage of Samuel and Helon Hancock Latimer. (deceased) He was the grandson of John and Ora Latimer, and Jeff and Hattie Hancock. (deceased) His siblings are Donna Erwin, and, Gayla Waits. John was a wonderful father to, Sam, Kathy, Johnel, Sarah, Jeremy, Jennifer, and Jonathan. He was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Faye Anderson on December 1, 2018.
John’s formal education began in the Fort Worth ISD system. He attended Ridgley West Elementary, Morning Jr. High, and Arlington Heights High Schools. He graduated in 1959. Later in life, he attended and received his BA in Liberal Studies from McNeese University in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1977 with a 3.53 GPA.
He continued his education path by becoming certified to teach English as a Second Language, Special Education and, K-12 General Education. His favorites were Social Studies and “any” Special Education subject.
John was a true believer and servant for the Lord. He was baptized twice. The first was at the age of 12 at Ridgely Baptist Church in Ft. Worth, Texas, and the second, at the First Christian Church in Sulphur, Louisiana at the age of 40. John, at an early age, began teaching and training himself to work at various jobs, such as delivering paper, carpenter’s helper, mowing lawns, etc. (those things that most boys did back then to prepare themselves for later careers in life). When John was 19, he joined the United States Army, in the Reserve Program, and serviced for 8 years.
John was employed by: Cigo Petroleum Company in Sulphur, LA for 6 years as a machinist, Ector and Kennedale ISD as a Special Education Teacher, Sanders Estes Correctional Facility as a General Education teacher, Dallas ISD “Thomas Jefferson High School” (he said “this was my greatest life’s experience and fulfillment, because I met, fell in love, and married the truest love of my life!” His favorite subject was Social Studies. John was definitely an asset to all of his students because he not only taught them structured education, he shared his personal life’s knowledge regarding life experiences that would place an impact on their lives.
John was also a dedicated servant to the Democratic Party, and served as a delegate. John supported several organizations, however his two most impressive ones were, “THE NAACP, and, THE HSBU”.
He leaves, to mourn his departure, Jackie, his devoted and loving wife, best friend in life, true love of his life, companion, favorite cook, barber, personal groomer, fishing and shooting pool partner and PIANIST/SINGER, his children, sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends.
John will be greatly missed by many!

A visitation for John will be held Monday, December 20, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, 4216 S. Bowen Rd., Arlington, Texas 76016.
