I never met Jillian. But, I am in awe of her heroism. I wish had met her. She is a hero. I pray for her. I hope her family is comforted. I bet she’s watching out for us from heaven. I hope that little girl she saved is doing great things. God bless you Smith family.

I did not know Jillian but I believe she had the same love for her job as my daughter does. My prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Smith Family,

What a terrible time to lose your beloved daughter, during the holiday season and so quickly after her recent graduation.  Although it is of small comfort, you must know that God did not have to ask Jillian what she had done for her fellow man........she gave the highest gift He could ever ask......she gave her own life to save that of a fellow human being.  There is no greater sacrifice in God's eyes than someone who gives their life to save another, without consideration for her own safety.   While you miss her desperately, know, too, that she did not have a moment to suffer or to fear.........she immediately became the police woman she studied so hard to be, and as quickly as she was shot, God scooped her up in His arms to take her Home.  My heart is heavy for your whole family because the hardest time is yet to come.  When everyone goes home and gets on with their lives, it will be difficult to carry out the simplest of tasks.  Please rely on family members and friends to help ease your pain.  Take them up on offers to cook for you, or spend time with you, or invite you to tell them about Jillian---let your grief flow and take as long as you need to grieve.  It is an experience unique to each of us who lose a loved one.  Do not let anyone push you into getting back into your daily routine too soon, although sometimes it does help to distract your mind from the greatest loss a parent can handle.  Jillian's legacy is one of honor and excellence and if you listen closely, you will hear her voice telling you that she is fine and is where she needs to be.

I have known Jessica and Jillian since they were young teens in AISD. This tragedy was a blessing to the little girl's family as Jillian made the ultimate sacrifice to save a life younger than hers.This act alone will get her to paradise. My prayers and thoughts are with Jessica, the entire Smith family, and all peace officers that serve and respect the community as they recover from this untimely tragedy. May they soon find peace and solace.
