James Madison Hackney, 97, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on February 1, 2018, after a brief illness. James was born to Margarett Bishop Hackney and George Washington Hackney in Greenville, Texas on February 28, 1920.
He served for over 30 years in the armed services and was very proud and honored to serve his country. He married his wife, Velma Dean Kent, on November 15, 1942 in Palacios, Texas. They were married 75 years. James loved fishing, gardening, cooking and carpentry, but most of all he loved and cherished his family. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him or came in contact with him.
James is survived by his wife, Dean Hackney, his daughter Janet Schaeffer and her husband Rich of Grand Saline, Texas, grandson Tim Dryden, his wife Jackie and their children Calvin, Chloe, Conner, and Charlotte of Arlington, Texas, and granddaughter Erin Dryden of Jacksonville, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Elizabeth Humphries, and brothers DeWitt Hackney, Paul Hackney and Dwight Hackney.
A visitation for James will be held Tuesday, February 6, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas. A celebration of life will occur Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 2:00 PM, Moore Funeral Home. An interment will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas.
