James Frederick Basford

James was born January 13, 1958, in El Paso, Texas. He was given to his parents Floyd and Velma Basford. He married Connie Gallegos and moved to Kermit, Texas before settling in Vega, Texas, where they raised their daughter Heather. A golf professional most of his working years, James made great contributions to the Oldham County Country Club in Vega. James retired and in 2021 made Arlington, Texas his home.

James enjoyed most sports but had a passion for golf and baseball. He was a connoisseur of music. James was compassionate and had a serving heart. He was kind to everyone, especially to those who needed a hand up.

James is preceded in death by his parents Floyd & Velma Basford of El Paso and his wife, Connie Gallegos Basford of Vega, Texas.

James leaves behind his wife, Ortencia DeLeon of Arlington, Texas, his daughter, Heather Basford Pond and her husband R.L. Pond of Amarillo, Texas. Grandchildren: Sophie Pavlas, of West, Texas, Jaxton Pond, Presley Pond and True Pond all of Amarillo, Texas.

His extended family consists of stepsons, Augustine Sandoval and his wife Olivia Sandoval; Gabriel DeLeon his wife, Amairani Jimenez; and Ezequiel DeLeon; all of Arlington Texas. His extended grandchildren are Xavier Blanco, Augustine Sandoval, Noah Andrade, Nathaniel Andrade, David Andrade, Daniel Andrade and Madelyn DeLeon; all of Arlington, Texas. His half-sister, Beth Doner of Stockbridge, MA. Three very dear friends; Kay Ellis, Brandi Ellis and Margo Gooding.

Having been chosen and loved by his adopted parents Floyd and Velma, James, later in life, met his birth mother and they loved each other dearly.

A memorial Service for James will be Saturday June 24, 2023, 11:00 am at Fielders Church Bishops Chapel 2011 South Fielder Arlington, Texas 76013.
