Jack Downey served as a Navy Flyer during WWII, earned a degree in Civil Engineering, and spent his early professional years in the Air Travel Industry designing airport hangers & terminals all over the world for TWA. Beginning in 1968 he worked closely with the Dallas and Ft. Worth Mayors (and coining the name “DFW”) as the Director of planning for DFW Airport, then served as that airport’s Deputy Executive Director from 1970 until his retirement in 1985. These later working years Mr. Downey was considered one of the world’s leading experts on designing airports; consulting and speaking all over the world. He served on several community boards, including the Board of Directors for Seven Seas here in Arlington, and was an excellent carpenter by hobby.
Most importantly he was a faithful member of the LDS Church for 58 years
and an ever true and supportive husband to his beloved wife. He left a great legacy of faith, hard work, and honesty for his children, daughter -Kristen (Guy), daughter -Keven Crawford (Stephen), son -Michael (Lorena), 13 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.
