On May 10, 2020, Helen Ruth Snipes Decker met her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was born on November 30, 1933 in Waco, Texas, the daughter of Robert W. and Velma A. (Kyle) Snipes. She married Donald A. Decker on January 25, 1957 and he preceded her in death on January 12, 2010. Helen was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters John Snipes, Hazel Gorgas, Lester Snipes, and Joyce Witt.
She is survived by her brother Ronald Snipes and wife Bobbie, sister Geneva Vaughan and husband Ron, brother Gaylon Snipes and wife Linda; sons Alan Decker and wife Katherine and Wade Decker and wife Beckie; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Helen graduated from Waco High School and received her B.A. from University of Texas Arlington, and her Master’s from the University of North Texas. Helen spent many years working as a teacher for the Arlington Independent School District, as well as many private schools in the area. Helen was an intelligent and creative woman, who was strongly opinionated in politics, but also spent much time working on needlepoint, quilting, and painting. She was a lover of animals, including her dog Lucy and loved to tend to her iris garden at home. Helen was dedicated to Christ and her strong faith was paramount. She was a dedicated mother who cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 12:00pm-2:00pm on Friday, May 15, 2020 at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will begin at 2:00pm, also at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at Parkdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s honor to the John Hagee Ministries.
