Grace Ellen Settlemire

She was born on October 27, 1934 in Meade, KS to Orval and Julia Craig. She graduated from Bethany Nazarene College in 1956. After graduation, she moved to Hagerman, NM to begin her teaching career.

Grace married George H Settlemire on July 6, 1957 in Artesia, NM. They were members of the Nazarene Church and later became members of the First Baptist Church in Artesia. She was a member of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

After getting married, Grace taught first and second grades at Roselawn Elementary for almost twenty years. She retired from teaching in 1976 to take care of her niece's twin boys. A couple of years later, she went to work for Gibson's Department store.

In 1989 after the death of her husband, she moved to Arlington, TX to live with her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. She looked after her granddaughter and worked various other jobs most involving taking care of kids. She returned to Fowler, KS in 2003.

Grace became a member of the Friends Church. She worked in the church nursery and took care of the McDowell children during the week. In 2016 she moved back to Arlington, TX and in 2018 became a resident of the Coral Rehab Nursing Center.

Grace is survived by daughter, Christina Breaux and husband Mark Breaux; son George R Settlemire; granddaughter, Courtney Hedgpeth and husband Adam Hedgpeth; granddaughter, Meredith Breaux; great-grandchildren, Emma, Evie and Ethan Hedgpeth; brother, Carl Craig; sister, June Reed; brother-in-law, David Bieber; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, George H Settlemire; parents Orval and Julia Craig; sister, Aliene Bieber; brother, Orval "Bud" Craig; sister-in-laws, Ruth Craig, Myrna Craig, Maxine Parham and Pauline Myers; brother-in-laws, Ron Reed, Wendell "Windy" Myers and Wendal Parham.

In all things, Grace followed Jesus. Her faith and her family were of utmost importance to her. She served by caring for others and was unwaveringly loyal and kind. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A visitation will be held Friday October 28, 2022 at 9:00 am at Moore Funeral Home, with the funeral service following at 10:00 am at Moore Funeral Home Arlington, Texas 76012.
