George "Tex" Harvey was born June 13, 1919, in Lacy Lakeview to George Washington Harvey and Nellie May Chambers Harvey. Tex grew up around Waco. He joined the Army at 18 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was bombed. He met his future wife, Bessie Elnora Williams, while on leave and they were pen pals until his next leave when they married June 19, 1944. They had four children, Tommie R., Patrick E., Darlene and Jerry Paul. Tex was a charter member of Morningside, now Halmark Baptist. Tex took his children to church, teaching them godliness by word and deed. He was a scoutmaster for Pack and Troup #107, spending time with his wife and children. He was a postal carrier until he retired to avoid the dogs. He became a handyman at Everman Baptist Church where he was a deacon. When his church merged with Southwood Baptist Church, he became a deacon there also and when he could no longer serve, he was made "honorary" deacon for life. He was such an inspiration to his family, friends, and church. His smile and jokes kept every gathering lively to the end. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Tracy Denise Harvey, in 1977.
