George Francis Harty Jr.

George Francis Harty, Jr., age 97 of Rockwall, passed away on May 22, 2019. He was born on December 1, 1921 in Brooklyn, New York. George married Elizabeth Harty and they celebrated 70 years of marriage before her passing in 2014.

George grew up in New York and worked for the NYPD before being drafted during World War II. Following the war, George returned to the NYPD before being called back to serve during the Korean War and Vietnam War. George retired as a naval aviator after 27 years of service in the US Navy. He then worked as an inspector for the FAA. In his spare time, George enjoyed snow skiing, downhill racing, boating, and spending time with his family.

George is survived by his daughter Barbara Mathews and husband Terry; grandchildren Pam Collins and husband Frank, Todd Harty and wife Amy, Suzanne Torres, Troy Harty, Lizbeth Lemley, and Hilary Harty; and 15 great grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elizabeth, son George Harty III, and grandson in law John Torres.

A celebration of George's life will be at 10:00am on Saturday, June 8 at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home, Arlington.
