George Clifton Arnold, 78, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his daughters, Crystal Arnold, Angela Callaway, and Margen Martinez; his sister Margaret Holcomb; and his grandchildren.
George was born in Houston, Texas and is the son of George Ragland and Mary Ella (Walter) Arnold. The family moved to Fort Worth when he was in high school and George eventually made his home in Mansfield, Texas. There he built a thriving paint contracting company that expanded to service all regions of the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. His business success provided for his family, but more importantly was a wellspring of meaningful relationships that endure to this day. His love for his friends and family was evident and his greatest treasure.
George had a passion for baseball and played for many years. George served briefly as the president of the Mansfield Girls Softball Association and was the founder of the Tomboys fast pitch softball team. He was the head coach and manager for over a decade and grew the program from a development team with slow pitch roots, to fast pitch World Champions. He mentored these young ladies at a pivotal point in their lives and taught them to be winners on and off the field.
George had a gift for finding the perfect balance between performing at the highest level while still having fun and enjoying playful and silly moments. This formula made him a champion not only in sports, but in all aspects of his life. Laughter and merriment were his constant companions. Any time someone thinks about George it brings a smile to their face and he left an imprint of joy on all who knew him.
The memorial service is Saturday, December 9th at 2:00 pm at Mansfield Bible Church, 2351 Country Club Dr., Mansfield, Texas 76063 with a reception to follow. Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to Alzheimer Disease Research Fund at https://giving.umich.edu/basket.
