This obituary would not be complete without mentioning Gaye's nurse, Sierra Henry. Mom thought of her as her own daughter but also had a nickname for Sierra but it is something that is kept within the family. Among all the people at the care center who helped make our mother more comfortable, Sierra's care stood out as exceptional. Sierra truly brightened her life, her role in Gaye's life was even more than that, though, she helped our mother preserve her dignity and manage her failing health with courage. Those things mattered a lot to her as you know and we will always be grateful that Sierra was her caregiver until the end. Gaye's family wanted to especially thank Sierra for her incredible patience and tenderness with our mom over the past few years. Our mom was such a smart and confident person, and we all know she didn't always keep her opinions to herself. You handled her "advice" with such kindness, and we know she loved you very much and we deeply appreciate the care that you gave her. You made it possible for Gaye to keep her dignity until the end of her life, and that was no small thing. We are missing our mom terribly right now, but knowing you were there helping her at the end brings us great comfort. We are truly thankful for what you did for our family.
Also, this would not be complete without mentioning the exceptional care shown to our beloved mother by the good folks at Hospice Plus of Sherman, Texas. The tenderness and sensitivity shown to our mother at the end of her life is something we will never forget. Thank you for the comfort you gave our mother, as well as the wonderful insights, knowledge and emotional support you showed our entire family. Watching someone you love make the transition out of this life is a really difficult thing, and your wisdom and comfort helped us navigate this challenging time. Thank you so much for all you did for Gaye and for her family.
