As a pilot went to work for Bell Helicopter Textron as a flight test engineer for over 37 years. Conducted and lead numerous aircraft projects now used both protecting our beautiful country, and saving countless lives in natural disaster ravaged areas of the world.
Acoustical engine noise testing; Developed rapid float deployment system for water landings, engine functionality and degradation testing in extreme cold weather situations (First and only time my boots and gloves ever instantly froze to any surface I touched. Location: oil platform in Deadhorse Alaska), 680 bearing less, hinge less rotor system which paved the way for the helicopters of today.
Aircraft Development: AH1T, AH1T+, AH1W, AH1Z (All Cobra attack helicopters), OH-58D Armed Kiowa Scout and enhanced armament AHIP program, Bell Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter.
But my absolute pride and joy, my baby which I saw through trials and tribulations, and was scared to death they would cancel the program time and time again: The V-22 Osprey. I travelled to Patuxent River Naval Air Test Center on a two-year assignment conducting flight testing and proving this aircraft was a viable platform.
I strutted around my house for weeks after my Osprey saved an US F-15 pilot who had ejected out over Libya on March 21, 2011. From engines starting to power up, retrieval of the downed pilot, and back aboard the USS Kearsarge again after 260 miles of flying it only took 90 minutes!
I have traveled across the United States, Alaska, and Canada for my helicopter testing. Of which Alaska has always captured my heart. I always dreamed of moving to Alaska and becoming a bush pilot in such a beautiful, yet dangerous place. Joyce, on the other hand stated firmly, no. I have skydived three times due to my son being an Army Paratrooper. Joyce did not like this and became even more troubled when Kevin called her one day and said he became a skydiving instructor.
Background and Demographics:
Born to the parents of Samuel Raymond Kologey, and Mary Erline Beale in Dallas, Texas on October 4th, 1936. I have been preceded in death by my brother Bill, and sister Helen Cuthbertson (married).
Prior marriage children, Laura, Michael, and Sarah.
I met the love of my life and married Joyce on November 1, 1969. In 54 glorious years she graciously bestowed upon me two wonderful children Kevin and Keith Kologey. Any and all of my accomplishments were solely due to her constant and steadfast personal sacrifice, powerful memory, stunning organizational skills, and unwavering Christian faith and morals. We have been members of First Baptist Church in Arlington, TX for decades. If Dr. Wade is doing this ceremony, he has known us and my children Kevin and Keith all their lives.
Some would say after reading this, I had a very full life. I thought I had too, until my granddaughter Mia Kologey arrived from my son Kevin. My precious sunshine. We did everything together; played tennis, soccer, and swing on a seat from the same tree your father did when he was your age. I came outside to simply watch in wonder as you sped by me on your big wheel perfectly skidding to a stop near me. You loved to run around me with your bubble making gun spraying me all over with it. I taught you math and reviewed your spelling words as grand mommy cooked and cleaned for us. I love you my precious sunshine. I truly lived because of you.
I Frank Raymond Kologey passed away after fighting the good fight on November 28th, 2023, at the age of 87 to continue my journey with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mom [Joyce]? I love you. I always have loved you, even though sometimes I was bad at showing it. I’m sorry. Please take care of Mia for me and review her math and spelling like I did. Trust Kevin in how he works with Mia but be there for the pitfalls which you experienced with him decades ago. Mia, grow up strong, independent, beautiful, go to school (yes, this means college too), get outstanding grades, and live a life that both I and your dad never dreamed of. Never miss an opportunity to discover or learn something. You can be afraid of things, but don’t let the fear stop you. Keith, I love you. You are a good, and deeply caring man. I believe in you. It is time for you to rise to the occasion and have the life you greatly need and can accomplish. Kevin and Keith, please come together again and work with one another. Learn to move forward from the past and respect each other and your differences. Mom is going to need your help more than ever. Believe in yourselves and be the good men we raised.
