Biography Of The Late Dr Francis Deku
“For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands.” (2 Corinthians 5:1)
Introduction:
Friday, the 4 th day of October 1962, saw the birth of the late Dr. Francis Nudali Deku, at Labadi in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, to Mr Ferdinand Kofi Deku and Madam Mary Akpanya Loku, both of blessed memory. Francis was the third child of his maternal siblings who were four in number. He was a “mummy’s boy,” very much attached to his late mother, due to his calm and meek nature. Since he was his mother’s favorite son, she called him by some pet names such as ‘Tordia’ or ‘Teteborlu.’
Early life and Education:
Francis began his basic education at the Madina D/3 Primary and Middle schools in Accra, in 1968 and successfully completed in 1978. He gained admission into Mawuli Secondary School in Ho, where he pursued a five-year Secondary School Education leading to the G.C.E. Ordinary level qualification in June 1983. While in Mawuli Secondary School, Francis developed a great sense of love for God and a desire to become a Pastor, such that, after having had his G.C.E. Ordinary level qualification, he opted to go for training at the Seventh-Day Adventist Bible school for a two-year training program in Pastoral studies. This he did from 1983 to 1985. Francis really cherished his calling as a Pastor above everything else, including his profession as a medical doctor. Just like any ambitious being, Francis had to go through many of life’s challenges and setbacks to achieve his goals. However, his resolve, his resilience and his strong faith in the Lord God, all helped to make a way where there appeared to be no way. Between 1985 and 1987, Francis went to take up a teaching appointment in Monrovia-Liberia, to enable him to raise funds towards his medical school program in Mexico. From Monrovia, Francis went to the University of Montemorelos, a Seventh-Day Adventist university located in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, in Mexico, from 1988 to 1995 where he qualified as a medical doctor.
Family:
In Mexico, while studying to be a physician; he met the love of his life, Rosa Rodriguez, and got married on May 29, 1994. Later, giving birth to two children, Seira Deku on June 7, 1998 and Esteban Deku June 17, 2002.
His service to God and mankind:
In 1998, Francis moved to the United States of America, not only as a medical doctor and a preacher, but he was also an entrepreneur who ventured into many other business enterprises, including setting up a car dealership, where he worked selling cars.
The Call to Glory:
Francis lived a life full of faith, love, and service for the Lord and his fellow human beings. He became ill in the later part of last year. Unfortunately, as the Lord God would have it, Francis could not survive. He breathed his last on Tuesday, 25th February 2025, at the age of 61 years, departing peacefully at the hospital, in answer to his Maker’s call. He left behind two children. Francis’ death leaves a void that will be difficult to fill. However, the memories of his life and his unwavering faith will forever be etched in the hearts of all who came crossing his path on his journey through this wilderness of life. Francis, your life was a beautiful reflection of the Scripture passage “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7)
Beloved, rest well in your Maker’s bosom.
“Give thanks in all circumstances:
For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18
