Fidel C. Olivares, Jr., age 84 of Arlington, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017. He was born on August 24, 1932 in Harlingen, Texas, the son of Fidel Olivares, Sr. and Luz Campos Olivares. Fidel married Odilia Bustamante and they shared 62 years of marriage together.
Fidel is survived by his wife, Odilia; daughters, Belinda E. Wilson and husband Nathanial, Cindy Mercer, Blanca E. Williams and husband, Jerry L., and daughter-in-law, Helen Olivares; grandchildren, Jimmy R. Mercer, Amy R. Mercer, Natalie N. Wilson, Leah Olivares, Benton Olivares, Thomas N. Wilson and wife, Valyncia, Marcus N. Wilson and wife, Aleisha, and Sarah N. Williams; great grandchildren, Kayson Lee Kite, Liam Thomas Wilson, and Taron Axel Clariday; brother Luz Eve Olivarez; sisters Lucilla Perez, Maggie Olivo, Tommie Contreras, and Frances Ramos. Fidel was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Gustavo Olivares, and sisters, Teresa Pinaflor and Rosie Olivares.
Fidel grew up in South Texas before moving to Dallas and joining the US Army. It was while he was in the Army that he met his wife, Odilia, back in their hometown. From there, the couple began their 62 years together traveling the world and raising their children. Fidel served for over 21 years and served in Vietnam. In his spare time, Fidel enjoyed coin collecting, watching and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, and secretly enjoyed being a R&B music fan. Fidel’s greatest joy in life was the time he got to spend with his family, all of whom will miss him greatly.
Funeral services will be at 11AM on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Moore Bowen Road Funeral Home in Arlington, with visitation from 10:30AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at DFW National Cemetery, with full military honors.
