He received his high school diploma from Butler High School in Oklahoma.
Edward was raised on a farm and was the youngest of six children. He had three older brothers and two older sisters.
He married Edna Fay Whitner in Fort Worth, TX on December 6th, 1957.
Edward served in the United States Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic from 1953-1956, and as a Bomb Navigation Systems Mechanic from 1961-1966.
After the military, he worked for Honeywell, formerly known as Sperry Corporation, for many years before retiring in 1993. He then worked for the City of Grand Prairie as a Transit Bus Driver for seniors and disabled individuals from 1995-2007.
Edward was a faithful member to many churches throughout the years. He was a music minister and Choir Director in several churches, an ordained deacon, Sunday School Director, Youth Minister, Sunday school teacher to all ages, member of many choirs and quartets, designed and installed a sound system for Hillside Baptist Church in Phoenix, AZ. His previous faith family for the past 20 years has been Inglewood Baptist Church of Grand Prairie, TX.
Edward’s date of salvation is unknown. He once told us he couldn’t remember when, he was raised knowing that God is over all and in all so had accepted that for as long as he could remember. His greatest passion was for his family to know the Lord. He led his wife, two children, two granddaughters and one great granddaughter to the Lord. With an infectious smile he was hard to miss in a crowd. Edward was a gentle man who always showed kindness and love to all he met. He enjoyed working in the yard, watching sunrises and sunsets, and helping others through whatever means he could.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents Abraham and Anna, three brothers Ezra, Menno, and Abraham Jr., his two sisters Rosella and Roberta, and his wife Edna.
Edward is survived by his son Johnny Mack Hamm and wife Tammy in Red Oak, TX and his daughter Deborah Kay Toulan in Euless, TX, granddaughter Amber Kay Martin and husband Matthew in Grand Prairie, granddaughter Alisha Ann Ramirez and husband Javier in Grand Prairie, grandson Elric Edward Hamm in Red Oak, three great-granddaughters Shelly Ann Bridwell, Audrey Kay Martin, and Hailey Ilana Ramirez and three great-grandsons Noah Johnny Martin, Jayce Hayden Ramirez, and Benjamin David Martin.
