Another memory I have of my Great-Grandma is the numerous Easter’s spent at her house.  We would all take our annual family pictures and then hunt the Easter eggs hidden in the backyard.  Even rain couldn’t stop our egg hunts as Great-Grandma would hide the eggs throughout the inside of the house.

The greatest memory I have of Dot is her love for the Lord and her genuine concern and desire to see people honor the Lord with their life.  By her testimony and walk with the Lord, Dot encouraged me to also grow in my relationship with Christ.

My favorite memory of my Grandmother is when I had the opportunity to spend a summer in Honduras with my grandparents.  During my time there I had the blessing to see how much love she had for the people of Honduras and how she loved being right were God wanted her to be.  I remember the time we went to the beach also when we went to the Ruins of Copan in Honduras. I have so many memories that are so dear to my heart during that time with her. She became a hero of my faith because God allowed me to see her faith in action by spending that precious time in Honduras. That summer will always be a wonderful memory of two people who displayed their love for the Lord.  

Dot was my adopted mother on the mission field of Honduras.  She took me under her wing and taught me so many things!  What a wonderful cook she was and what a giver.  Our three children called her Aunt Dot and her sweet husband, Uncle Jim.  We were always SO happy to see them drive up to our home, and we loved visiting them in La Esperanza.  We will have a reunion day soon.  How wonderful it is to have God's promises.

Remembering my dear friend Dot Foster!  We were friends for about a million years but I do believe we saw them more when they were in Honduras than in Grand Prairie!  That's what life in the fast lane, not to mention old age, decrepitude will do to friends.  Favorite story:  Visiting them in La Esperanza, way up in the mountains of Honduras - with a bumpy "road" into the village, Dot announced she was making a multi-tiered WEDDING CAKE to be taken down into town!  How?  We wondered.  Then clever Dot loaded us into the bone shaker (Jeep type car) and handed each of us except Jim, the driver, a separate layer or two and told us not to let them crack!  Down in town, we carted the tiers into the house where she iced and assembled them - perfection!  As was our Dot! Miss her ....

I remember the wonderful time we had in Honduras for the ladies retreat.   I will never forget cutting raisins to put in the cinnamon rolls.  Dorothy Foster was such a hard worker and definitely knew how to cook.  She was precious and we really miss her at church (PBC).

I remember Dot hiking up the mountains of Honduras, making guacamole at the missionary's house, staying up late several nights with me, and telling me about being a missionary.  She shared so many memories about raising her kids in Honduras, getting mail and a house phone.  What a woman she was!  I was blessed to have shared those nights with her.  

I always remember the family reunions with homemade biscuits and, of course, FUDGE!!!   She was always so nice to me and my brothers, which in our situation with our father, it was a blessing.

I will always remember her praying at our ladies prayer time!  I loved hearing her pray!  One year, a week before Easter, we put out a plea for folks to help us knock doors to pick up kids for church.  Dot was the only one to come.  She was so faithful ... and also fun!  I miss her!

I have many, but following Uncle Jim and Aunt Dot to Alie's house in St. Louis, Missouri from Michigan.  There were  stops and laughter along the way and then once we got there, them teaching us how to play Dominos.  Alison Foster, do you remember us invading you?  Then we went for Chinese food, I think.

Dot and Jim were mine and George's best friends from (I think) 1966.  Never has there been a woman quite like Dot, she was a beautiful Christian, she was full of love and warmth, she always had a kind word for people, and she was a lot of fun when playing cards.  I learned a lot from Dot, the times I went to Honduras and helped with the cooking.   I learned a lot from her about cooking for a large number of people.  When we were younger she taught me little tips about cooking that I still use today.  I loved Dottie with my whole heart.  I always wished that I could be just like her.  I know God has a special place for her in Heaven.  You can't think about Dot without thinking about Jim, they just go together.  My kids always called them Aunt and Uncle and sometimes that would get mixed up and say Uncle Dot and Aunt Jim.  I look forward to the reunion in Heaven when we see all of our loved ones again.  I'll be looking for one of those big warm hugs from Dot.

When I was at your house in Honduras, my name was always "Linda Honey".  She and your dad came down to the valley when my mom passed away.  She just hugged me and let me cry; she didn't tell me it was going to be okay or any other platitude people usually tell you.  She just hugged me and let me cry. I will always love Dot.  She was "my mom" too!!

I remember a trip my family took to Honduras when Grandma Dot got sick and I had to cook in her place.  You never heard such sincere praying from teen boys the next day that God would heal Grandma Dot.  God blessed us and she recovered.  She made pies just to prove it.  I loved Dot.  She was a mom to many.

While at Pleasantview Baptist Church, Dot and I cooked the Mexican themed Wednesday night meal together for several years.  I cannot tell you how much I learned about cooking from Dot.  Others would come in to work with us and want to take short cuts on preparing the meal but that did not fly with Ms. Dot.  Everything we prepared was made from scratch.  Everyone especially loved her guacamole.  I have washed so many cases of avocados, cut up so many tomatoes and onions, and hand rolled so many enchiladas but I would gladly do it all again to work with Dot.  She was truly a servant of the Lord and was such an inspiration to me.  I feel very blessed to have been able to call her my friend.

Dot was my oldest daughter's, Staci's, second mom.  She had so many tales to tell about her trip when she visited your family in Mexico in 1973.    Dot and Staci are probably remembering those times and having laughs in Heaven about the pranks your dad played on her.  She took hamburgers on the plane for all of your family in Mexico.  The flight attendant told her she couldn't take the hamburgers and that her and the flight attendants would have to eat them.  My daughter was heartbroken until the flight attendant started laughing.  Staci was even able to spend her 16th birthday with her second family.

Great-Grandma was an awesome cook!  One of my favorite things Great-Grandma made was guacamole.  I would ask Great-Grandma to make it for me, especially on my birthday and holidays, and she would happily do it for me.  She would even let me eat the guacamole out of the bowl while gently reminding me, "one chip Ashley".

One of my fondest memories of Great-Grandma was when she was able to watch me dance.  We had gone over to Great-Grandma's house for one of our family gatherings.  I asked Grandma if she wanted to watch one of my dances I had recorded on my phone.  Great-Grandma eagerly said yes.  I will always cherish the memory of sitting next to her and being able to share my life-long passion with her.  We watched a dance entitled Ave Maria as Great-Grandma commented on how beautiful I was in the dance. 

My favorite memory of Great-Grandma is when I was able to give her lots of hugs.

Great-Grandma loved the holidays.  One year for New Years we had these funny faces we could use as a prop for our annual family picture.  I remember taking our family pictures with Great-Grandma using the funny faces.  We all laughed!

When visiting Great-Grandma's house I remember Great-Grandma would let me use her coloring book and coloring pencils to make pictures for my family.

 One Thanksgiving some of the family convinced Grandma to participate in Black Friday shopping.  Grandma wanted to drive for our shopping adventures.  As Grandma turned left onto a main road, myself and Hollie quickly realized Grandma had turned on the wrong side of the road!  We informed Grandma that she was on the wrong side of the road and needed to turn around.  As we could see car lights approaching, Grandma calmly stated she would turn around "when I get a chance".  She was able to turn around and glad to report there were no injuries.  Although it was a little scary at the time it is always a fun memory I will cherish with my Grandmother.

Grandma was an amazing cook!!  One of my favorite dishes of hers was her macaroni salad.  Anytime we had our family gatherings I would request her macaroni salad, which she would gladly make.  My other favorite item was her strawberry pie.  This was particularly special because I do not like pies of any kind.  It must of been that extra pinch of love Grandma put in her strawberry pie that made it so yummy!

My grandmother gladly served as a missionary to the country of Honduras for many of my childhood years.  I will always remember the excitement I would get when Grandma was able to come to the States for a visit.  I remember going to the airport and waiting at the gate (this is when you were allowed to wait at the gate) for Grandma and Grandpa to exit the plane.  I would wait and wait and wait some more.  I am not sure how they planned it but Grandma and Grandpa would always have the seat at the very back of the plane, making them the last to exit the plane.  Although the excitement to see them was hard to bear it did make those first hugs so special and worth the wait.

Somehow Grandma knew everything!!  I remember when I was little Christopher had convinced me to ask Grandma for some milk to make quicksand.  Believing him I rushed into the mission house and quickly asked Grandma for a glass of milk to drink.  Grandma probably knew something was up and asked me to try the milk first to make sure I liked it.  Of course, I told Grandma I loved the milk (even though I could not stand the taste of it).  She then filled the whole glass and I returned outside to create the quicksand with my cousin.  We quickly learned it wasn't working and Christopher, again, convinced me that we needed more milk.  Again I went inside and asked Grandma for more milk.  I was busted!!  She failed to believe that I had already drank all the milk she had previously given me.  Giving me that famous face, she sternly asked me, "Rebecca what did you do with the milk?"  Knowing I had no other option but to tell the truth I told her I had used the milk to try and make quicksand.  She was so disappointed, stating "I would have given you the milk if you had asked".  Although Grandma did not stand for disobedience she also had a tenderness and compassion, as she later wrapped me in her arms telling me she did not like my behavior but did love me.



Grandmother Dora in Honduras I remember her every day with affection and love, I know that one day I will see her again, every year she made my birthday cake and every night at home how to forget them playing board games and legos, she enjoys the presence of God but in our hearts always lives.

      Mom was a godly woman of beauty, grace, elegance, and faithfully served the Lord.  One of my mom’s characteristics was honesty.  One time when I was probably 10 years of age, I decided that I wanted a pack of gum.  My Mom was busy paying for her purchases so I reached up to take the package of gum.  That was a BIG mistake because my Mom had eyes on the side of her head.  All of you who knew Mom know what happened after that.   Also, Mom did not tolerate disobedience.   When I was younger, we had a swing set in the backyard.  Mom had always told me and my sisters, “Do not stand up on the swing when swinging.   Being the stubborn child that I was, I decided I would stand on the swing anyways and Mom would never know.  Unfortunately, there was a broken hook in the chain and as I was swinging it punctured my skin on the palm of my hand.   My Mom taught me that disobedience has consequences.
      In the last few months of Mom’s time on earth she was confined to home and doctor visits.  About a week before she went to the hospital for the last time she had a burst of energy; her and dad went to a restaurant, had lunch, and purchased a pumpkin with the intention of making a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving.
      I went to see Mom on the Friday before she went to be with the Lord.  She was in an extreme amount of pain but she still never complained.    I called her doctor and explained the symptoms and he said,  “She needs to go to the emergency room.”  My heart was heavy that day because I could discern that her internal organs were shutting down.  Then I talked to her on Saturday afternoon and she said they are not doing anything for me here so I want to go home.  Immediately I began to pray for a miraculous healing for Mom.    Early Sunday morning Mom was moved to ICU.   I begged God not take her.   The Lord answered Mom’s prayer and took her home to be with Him.  He also answered my prayer and said, No my child. Your Mom’s time on earth is finished.        

     One of my fondest memories of mom happened on Christmas Eve 2018.  This was mom's last Christmas with us on this side of heaven and this was her favorite time of  year.  She loved cooking and baking but by this time needed help with the cooking and baking. 
     In preparation for Christmas dinner, Mom always made her delicious dressing with corn bread mix, stuffing mix, and other ingredients but the corn bread was always baked by itself to add to the stuffing mix.   Dad put the stuffing mix in a bowl and said to me, "What are you waiting for?  Just put the muffin mix in with the stuffing mix.".  So, I added the corn muffin mix as I was instructed by dad.  Then mom asked for her corn muffin mix and I told her I had put the stuffing mix in with the corn muffin mix.  Her face got this funny look on it and her mouth dropped open and she said, "tell your dad to bring me the bowl so I can figure out how to fix this mess."  So I took her the bowl and all she could say was "Why would you listen to your dad?  He can't follow instructions".  I said, "I did what he told me to do!!".
     As she sat on the couch with the bowl, I started bringing her the ingredients she asked for to add to the bowl to make it taste like dressing.  The dressing turned out great and you couldn't tell that dad and I had messed it up.

 

There is so much I loved about my sweet Godly momma.  My momma was my hero, my #1 fan for my business, always there when I needed her, a great cook and baker, and a great missionary alongside my dad.
My mom truly lived by example and taught us girls God’s principals.  One morning when I went to school, I was wearing a skirt and I rolled it up at the waist to be shorter because we always had to wear our dresses and skirts right above our knee and everybody else wore miniskirts.   I felt pretty good about the way I looked throughout the whole day and thought I got away with wearing my skirt shorter.  However, after school when mom picked me up, I forgot to roll my skirt back down.  Of course, I didn’t realize it at that time but my momma was teaching me at that moment, and when I got home, the verse in Romans 12:2 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Momma. I miss you so much but I rejoice that you are healed – no more shortness of breath, no more oxygen, no more breathing treatments, no more diseased lungs, and bad heart!  I am reminded of the song “my hope is in you Jesus”.  I love you momma and I will see you again in Heaven!

My fondest memory of my cousin (although I always called her Aunt Dot) was when all of us girls gathered around Aunt Pearl's table watching her make fudge.  Us girls would argue over who would get the first piece and Aunt Dot would just laugh.  You could see how much love she had by the smile on her face for each and everyone of us and I miss her.

From the very first day I met Dot she showed me nothing but acceptance and love.  Over time we became very close friends.  We spent many Sundays after Church playing hand and foot - with Dot most likely winning.  I was honored to spend her last Saturday here on earth with her.  She was laying in bed at the hospital, so close to meeting her maker, still she could smile and encourage.  It is a day I will always hold close to my heart.  Miss you much Dot. 

I always enjoyed going to the Fosters' home after church when they lived next to East Berry St. Baptist Church in Fort Worth.  (Usually to play games with the girls.) It seemed she didn't care how many kids were there!  The more the merrier!  Through the years, we've moved apart in distance, but were always friends of the heart!
