Doris Marie Hart, 90, passed away Thursday morning, January 19, 2023. Doris was born August 9,1932 in Fort Worth, TX to James Peterman and Addie New Peterman. Doris had believed that her name was Sister until she began school and then became known as Doris Marie because there were three Doris’ in her class. She graduated from Walnut Springs High School in Walnut Springs, Texas.
She married the love of her life , Jack Hart, in Glen Rose, TX on July 4, 1952. They celebrated that union for 66 years. With Jack being in the Air Force, he and Doris lived in San Antonio, Texas, Illinois, & Lake Charles, Louisiana where daughter Marilyn was born. The family of 3 moved to Arlington, TX after Jack’s stint in the Air Force. In 1957, daughter Leslie was born. The family made Arlington their home except for a short time that they enjoyed living in Aurora, Missouri.
Over the years before she and Jack retired , Doris worked as a cashier, office manager for Ranco Controls and for a branch of Sunbelt Mortgage, but her favorite jobs earned her the titles of wife, mom & Mama.
Doris and Jack spent countless time together at the Hart family farm in Glen Rose picking up pecans, family fish fries & watermelon eating, and fishing & picnicking at Lake Whitney. Doris was avid reader, especially of biographies and historical non/fiction. She was also a wonderful cook which she especially loved to do for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and family birthdays. To the family’s delight, each member would choose what special birthday dessert Mama would bake. Several of her specialties were German Chocolate cake(Jack’s favorite) strawberry cake, strawberry shortcake, pineapple cake, coconut crème pie, chocolate pie, buttermilk pie, sweet potato pie and also homemade ice cream.
Besides her family, Doris’ other great love was traveling. Doris & Jack made many road trips all across the United States and traveled and experienced the cultures, people, & sights of many foreign countries. Doris was a lifelong Christian growing up in the Baptist church and her adult life as a Methodist. Doris, Jack & the girls were early members of Church of the Good Shepherd in Arlington, TX where Jack and Doris were faithful members for decades and then later in life began worshipping at St. Barnabus UMC.
In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband Jack Hart and 4 of her 6 brothers, Jack Peterman, Don Peterman, Glenn Peterman & Jamie Peterman.
