Dolly Ann Morris

Dolly Ann Shortridge Morris, of Arlington, Texas passed away peacefully on June 25, 2011, after an extended illness. Dolly was born on January 7, 1931, in Meridian, Mississippi to Frank Shortridge and Vivian Vaughan. She graduated in 1952 from the Mississippi University for Women with a degree in Social Studies. Shortly after graduation, she married her husband of 59 years, Harold Frances Morris, who served five years as a pilot in the Strategic Air Command during the Korean Conflict. When they were stationed at Hunter Air Force Base, Savannah, Georgia, she taught high school for several years. After leaving the service, they returned to Mississippi State University where her husband graduated with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. They then moved to Dallas, Texas, where her husband was employed by the Chance Vaught Corporation (now Lockheed Martin) as a flight test engineer. Following 33 years of service, including assignments in El Paso, Texas and Warren, Michigan, her husband retired as Director of Test and Logistics in the LTV Missile Division. While in Michigan, Dolly resumed her career in Social Work, heading up a number of charitable organizations. A devoted wife and mother, she took great pride in the accomplishments of her four children, eight grandchildren, and two grandchildren. Dolly was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Betty Beaver. She is survived by her sons, Dr. David Morris, wife Robin, of Petoskey, Michigan, Dr. Allen Morris, wife Glenda, of Sacramento, California, daughters, Laura Jester, husband, Michael, and Amy Morris, both of Garland, Texas. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Vivian Williams, husband, Charles Williams of Madison, Mississippi, and Bertie Wade of Jackson, Mississippi, and many lovely nephews and nieces.

Memorial donations may be made in the name of Dolly Morris to the ALS Foundation in memory of her lovely niece, Angela Lang.
