David Alvin Nugent "Danny" was born in Houston on Dec. 31, 1926, to Charles Albert and Della Elsie Nugent. He grew up with two older sisters, Frances Laverne Nugent Matthews and Alice Luan Nugent. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1944 and immediately went into ASTRP (Army Specialized Training Reserve Program) at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. In 1945 he was stationed in Orly Field outside Paris, France, in the Army of Occupation. After one year, he was mustered out of the service for the convenience of the government.
Danny was a talented singer, and had a natural talent for music. As a young boy, he taught himself to play the harmonica and to read music. In 1947, he enrolled in the Chicago Musical College as a full-time voice student where he met his first wife, Patricia "Patti" Ann Bolton. They were married in Chicago in June 1947. Danny graduated from UT in Austin in 1952, with a BBA in business statistics. He went to work in 1962 at Kelly AFB in the cost analysis dept. In the same year his oldest son, Matt Bolton Nugent, was born in Austin, and Danny and Patti were thrilled. Their youngest son, Kevin Albert Nugent, was born in Fort Worth in 1956. Patti and Danny had moved to Arlington where Danny was working in the aircraft industry. He retired from Bell Helicopter in 1991 after 30 years of service. Danny's first wife Patti was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1987 and after an eight-year battle, passed away in 1995. Danny met his second wife at Widowed Persons breakfast in 1996 and he and Roberta Henderson were married Feb. 1, 1997. They were very happily married for 15 years. He spent many of his retirement years singing with the Gold Tone Show Choir. Danny was often the soloist. The choir members said they had their very own Bing Crosby. The choir brought a lot of happiness to organizations all over Tarrant County. He was also a member of the Arlington Citizen Police Academy and the Bailando Dance Club. He had season tickets for 11 years to the Masterpiece Series Symphonies at Bass Hall because of his great love of music. Danny and Roberta traveled extensively. He was predeceased by his sisters, Laverne Matthews and Luan Nugent of Houston.
