Charles Carl Smith was born in Burnet, Texas on January 18,1927 to Charles Pinkney Smith and Addie Beulah (Crooks) Smith. Following his childhood years in Bertram and Oatmeal, he graduated from Burnet High School and enlisted in the Merchant Marines, where he served on various cargo ships during WWII.
After WWII, he returned to Burnet, where he launched a business career by opening a paint store. Shortly thereafter, he married the love of his life, Johnnie Marie Burk, on June 3, 1949. The business career in Burnet came to an abrupt halt after two years when Charles was drafted into the army and deployed to the front lines of the battlefield of the Korean War, where he bravely served as Master Sergeant in the Infantry.
Upon completion of his military duty, he returned to Texas and relaunched his successful business career in the paint and construction industry for 40 years in Austin and Mesquite.
He was a devoted husband and father, who also served others through his active involvement in church, VFW, Boy Scouts, prison ministry, and other organizations. He had a passion for assisting military veterans in multiple ways, including navigating the steps to obtain veteran benefits that they had earned.
Charles was preceded in death by brothers Albert Smith and Walter Smith, his sisters Ethyl (Smith) Marshall and Edith (Smith) Hoover, and great granddaughter June Smith. He is survived by his wife Johnnie Marie (Burk) of 74 years of Arlington, Texas; son Ron Smith (Karen) of Boerne, Texas; son Rick Smith (Barbara) of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren Stephen Smith of Jarrell, Texas; Natalie Strawn (Noah) of Midlothian, Texas; Brad Smith (Haley) of Tomball, Texas; Adam Smith (Quynh) of Arlington, Texas; Elaine Ponder (Josh) of Round Rock, Texas; Blake Smith (Rossmary) of San Antonio, Texas; and nine great-grandchildren.

Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
