ARLINGTON-Charles Waylon Hixon, 71, passed away at his home on September 10, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, 6102 W. Pleasant Ridge Rd., Arlington, TX at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6-8 pm at Moore Funeral Home, 4216 S. Bowen Rd., Arlington. Interment will take place at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth.
Charles spent 46 wonderful years with his devoted wife, Linda Joyce Hixon at their home in Arlington. Charles worked at Vought/LTV for 36 years as a mechanical engineer and was honored to assist in the designing of a heating and cooling unit that was used on the space shuttle Challenger. He had many other successes at work until retiring from his position in 1995.
Charles graduated salutatorian at Trimble Technical High School in 1958. He pursued a career in thermodynamic engineering and accomplished his mechanical engineering baccalaureate degree in 1963 at Arlington State College. He continued to increase his knowledge by achieving a Masters of Engineering at the University of Minnesota in 1965.
Charles was a giving and compassionate man who loved spending time doing things for others at Hillcrest Church of Christ for 35 years and at his current church as a deacon of Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ for the past 10 years. He enjoyed golfing as well as numerous construction projects for himself and others.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Joyce Hixon; son, Charles Todd Hixon; daughter, Laura Anne Hixon and spouse; granddaughter, Katherine Joyce Miles; siblings, Glen Hixon, Shirley Logan, Sue Szabacsan, and Mary Baggett; brothers and sister in-laws, Martha Miesch, John Haubert, and Bill Haubert along with their spouses.
