Carolyn Frost Charles

Carolyn was born August 4, 1927 in Farmers Valley, Texas to Zelia and JJ Frost. She, and younger brother Keith, grew up in this small farming community surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins. Following graduation from Chilicothe High school , she attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas where she majored in vocal music. On May 21, 1948, Carolyn married Jimmie Charles and moved to Bovina, Texas. They were married over 60 years and had three children, Johnnie, Lisa, and Renee.

Carolyn was a lifetime member of the Methodist church and served in the children and music ministries. For most of her life she was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. After raising her family, she worked for several years and retired from her job at the Luna county courthouse in Deming, New Mexico. In 1998, Carolyn moved to Albuquerque, and in 2011, moved to Arlington, Texas where she was able to enjoy weddings, birthdays, and the everyday lives of her daughter and her family. She loved people and always embodied the gifts of hospitality and graciousness. She enjoyed square dancing, riding behind Jimmie on the Honda Goldwing, cards and board games, pool, scrapbooking, painting, and was a gifted seamstress. She also loved to travel and was still taking road trips independently well into her 80s. She made her first international trip, to Germany, at age 84.

Carolyn will be missed by family and friends, but we hold tight to I Thessalonians 4:13 that as believers in Jesus Christ, we grieve with hope, confident that we will one day be reunited.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and daughter Renee.

She is survived by Johnnie (son) and Wendy Charles, Lisa (daughter) and Ed Lingenfelter, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Jean Long, and many nieces and nephews.
