My sincere condolences to the family.  I worked with Carl, back in the day, at APD.  He was always professional and treated me with great respect.  I appreciated his kindness, quick wit and humor.

I am so saddened to hear about Carl.  I worked with Carl in IAD and later in the East Substation; my kids and I visited Carl and Barbara in Colorado about 10 years ago. 
I always admired his attitude, demeanor, work ethic, tenacity, and professionalism.
He lived a life worth living and many more people than he will ever know have always admired him. He made a difference.
Carl, thank you for training me to be a better IAD Lt. and Deputy Chief. Carl, a few things you need to know: you cheated and used momentum when you did chest flys in the "IAD Real Man" competition and that was why you kicked our butts!:) only one year after your heart surgery!.... That it was Wade Goolsby's idea to jack with your plant when you were on vacation :).... That I was never cool enough to drive a custom van like you drove for so long :)... That the first time I met you was in the parking lot of Six Flags Mall when I was training with Bob Johnson; you were in Crime Specifics Task Force.
And that I am honored to have been your friend and am a better man for it.

My sincerest condolences to the Privitt family.  I had the pleasure of working with Carl in CID and in Internal Affairs.  Carl was a true professional in every sense of the word.  He taught me a tremendous amount about investigations, perspective, and professionalism.  His attention to detail was amazing and he would take the time to explain why you needed to do something, not just tell you how to do it.  Of course, that attention to detail led to many pranks while in Internal Affairs.  He was the only guy I ever knew that spent the first 10 minutes of the day straightening the top of his desk!  So... of course, we re-arranged his desk on a frequent basis!  Even though Internal Affairs is not a fun assignment, I have great memories because of Carl.  I will truly miss him.  He was truly a gentleman and a professional.

My husband and I only had the privalege of knowing Carl and Barb for the last few years in Longs Canyon. As I read the tributes to him I can remember his smile and hear his laughter as well when we had coffee with them in their home. I remember the love in his eyes as he looked at Barb, thinking this is a true cowboy,"Texas Ranger" style and what a wonderful, thoughtful gentleman he is. I want to express my sincere condolences to Carl's family.  I knew all to the Privets in high school and thought the world of them.  Reading Carl's history makes me smile with pride.  He obviously lived a very fulfilled life.  To Carl's mother and Mike in particular, please accept my deepest sympathy and prayers.

We will miss Carl a lot. He was a good friend and neighbor here in Long's Canyon in Trinidad. He was a generous person and willing to help at all times. You just don't meet people like Carl very often. He was a gentleman at all times. He was just a good man and definitely the best dressed cowboy I have ever seen.

I was deeply sadened when I  read that Carl had passed away. I had known Carl since we were both  5 years old. He was in my wedding and we had many many good times. He was agreat friend !! Roger Terry

Carl was a good neighbor and friend to those of us who had property in Longs Canyon. Visited him and Barbara whenever I was up there. When we talked, he knew what was coming and faced it with courage. I will miss the Long's Canyon Cowboy.

I partnered with Carl and worked Crime Specific Task Force with him.  He was a fine officer, gentleman and family man.  He will be missed. Regards to Barbara and family.

Carl, Dad would be and had always been so proud of you.  You did your best to help direct us in the direction you thought he would want you to as our big brother.  You were truly a role model in our lives just like Dad, and so good to us.   You look just like him!  Thank you, and love you!

I had the pleasure of working side by side with Carl for 2 years. Carl was never at a loss for words.  He enjoyed a good conversation. Whether he was imparting his wisdom or soaking up new knowledge, you knew the words he spoke and the time he gave were genuine.  He never hesitated to acknowledge those around him, he was an extremely proud father and husband. Thanks for the memories Carl.

Carl was the epitome of calm- especially during a PD administrative storm. He was good at keeping his people together and getting them through their storms too. I don't remember ever seeing him lose his temper. He just forged ahead and got things done- with his smoking pipe in hand (that was in the old days, of course). A solid cop and leader.

Some of my best memories from APD include Carl--his smile, humor, the .ever present 45 in his shoulder holster, the immaculate desk and the pipe...I was proud to work with him and call him my brother officer. Hard to find folks with his level of integrity and honesty. Carl, I will miss you, buddy.

I didn't let Carl know when I had the opportunity how much I trusted and admired him.  Something I will always regret. We never worked closely together, but whenever he would stop by to just chat he always made me feel like we were great friends and that I mattered. In the many years since I've thought of Carl often, and it has always brought a smile to my heart.

It was an honor to serve with Carl back in the 70's and 80's. He was a gentleman and one of the finest officers anywhere. He will be missed, but know that we will see him again some day.

I shall miss Carl terribly--We were both friends and colleagues--He was the consummate professional, a true role model and someone who I was proud to say that I knew and worked with--I have to suspend my disbelief in order to acknowledge his passing--Carl was always such a strong, dedicated and reassuring presence for us all--I am better for having known him and diminished by his departure--I close as I began:  I shall miss Carl terribly--Mike Heidingsfield

All I know to say was that Carl was always one of the good guys.  The only time I ever called him at home was to ask a question I already knew the answer to for Joey Cushman.  He was great.

Carl, you were a cop's cop, a friend, and an inspiration to many. I was honored to work with you. Even today I can hear your robust laugh from down the hall.

It was an honor to work under your leadership for seven years Carl. You were a great leader and even a better person and friend. May you rest in Peace, and God bless the your family.

Carl & I were rookie classmates together and even lived in the same apt. complex, so we've been friends for 40 years and through a lot of life's up's & downs as buddies and confidante's.  The ultimate gentleman and consummate professional, he always set the bar high and encouraged others. Barbara, you truly made Carl a HAPPY MAN!  He loved you so very much and was truly very proud of his family.  An honor to have his friendship.  Rest in peace my friend.

I will always remember Carl's smile under that mustache.  We're praying for his family and that we may all cherish our memories of him.

I was Carl's training officer back in the 70's at APD.  I enjoyed my time with Carl because he was a very pleasant and sincere man.  Carl was always easy to get along with, and I have never heard one person say a bad thing about him.  He could be your best friend, your next door neighbor or your brother-in-law.
