Carl was born on December 6, 1923 in Fort Worth, TX. He married the love of his life, Jean, on August 17, 1946 in Dallas, TX. (Homer Payne officiated).
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Ernest and Fannie Bost Fickle; three brothers, Robert “Chuck” Fickle, Harold Fickle, and his identical twin, Earl Damon Fickle.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jean Hanson Fickle of Runaway Bay; his son, Michael Fickle and wife Mary of Tool, TX; his daughter, Carla Fickle of Runaway Bay; his grandchildren, Laura Shannon and husband Paul of Arlington, TX; Rachel Blanchette and husband Brian of Fort Worth, Lesly McKenzie of Arlington; Rebecca Albin of Runaway Bay; James Albin and wife Stacey of Fort Worth; nine great grandchildren, Jacob, Caleb, Luke, Cayenne, Peyton, Aiden, Noah, Annzelle, and Lilly; one niece, Donna Haggard Brinson and husband Paul of Ft. Worth; and 9 nephews.
Carl and his brother, Earl, were brought up at the Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth, TX from the age of 9, when their mother passed away. Their father was not able to take care of 3 boys during the depression especially since his job required him to travel. The Home was a blessing though and both boys became Christians under the influence of “Mom” Pope.
Carl, along with his brother, were among those drafted out of high school into the military during the end of their Senior year at Arlington Heights. Carl served three years in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Medical Corpsman in the Pacific Islands.
He retired from Civil Service, General Services Administration, Defense Material Service, as the Chief of the Storage Division. He received many awards and commendations during his employment at GSA. He also taught First Aid classes to the employees. After retirement he obtained his Real Estate license and worked in that arena for several years.
Carl was a member of The Bay – A Community Church in Runaway Bay since its beginning in 1974, where he served as a Deacon. Before moving to Runaway Bay, he was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Hurst, Tx, for many years, where served as a Deacon and Elder.
Carl was an Eagle Scout and loved scouting. He enjoyed traveling in his RV to the Valley with his family and friends. He also loved fishing, especially on the Texas Coast. Living on the golf course at Runaway Bay, he learned to play golf. Carl also volunteered for the Fire Department as an EMT and ambulance driver at Runaway Bay for many years. He also served on the Board of Lena Pope Home for 5 years.
A visitation for Carl will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moore Funeral Home, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas. A celebration of life will occur Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 2:00 PM, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas. An interment will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers are Steve Hanson, Sam Hanson, Scott Hanson, Jeremy Fickle, Brandon Fickle and Justin Fickle.
