Jack Gray was born January 16, 1923 in Baltimore, Maryland and raised on the Gray farm in Wheaton, Maryland. He attended Roosevelt High School, where he lettered in golf. He joined the Navy in 1942 and served as an Aviation Machinist Mate until the end of the Second World War in 1945.
Mr. Gray was employed in the heating/air conditioning/ventilation industry from 1946 until his retirement in 1988 and helped pioneer the air conditioning market in North Texas after he and his family moved to Fort Worth in 1949.
Throughout his adult life he was an active member of the Presbyterian Church. He served as an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, Texas, and played a leading role in combining the resources of the church and others in the faith community with local government to found the Arlington Night (now Life) Shelter in 1988. Into his 90’s he stayed active in community service in Arlington and gave special attention to community support of homeless veterans.
Jack Gray wed Jean Lawson of Johnson County, Texas, on June 26, 1945, and they were married for 58 years until her death on September 10, 2003. They had three children, Shari, Gary and Mary.
Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his wife Jean, brother Ronald Gray and a great-grandson, Matthew.
He is survived by his children, Shari Gray Clark and husband, Jim, of Arlington; Gary Gray and wife, Luz, of Crystal Beach, Texas; Mary Gray Kelsey of Arlington; brothers, Milton Gray and wife, Alice, of The Villages, Florida, and Stanley Gray and wife, Mariann, of Bristow, Virginia; sister Marilyn Grace and husband, John, of Batesburg, South Carolina; grandchildren, Becky, Gretchen, Amy, Catherine, Mary Lee, Jessica and Marybeth; great-grandchildren, Heather, Jack, Morgan, Tommy, Gage, Eyan, Tanner, Jaedyn, Taylor, Peyton, Ashton, Sophie and Max; great-great grandchildren Reign, Auryn and Lilith; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
