Thomas Earl Rodgers Jr. was born on July 12, 1975, in Danville, Virginia to Thomas Rodgers Sr. and Gracie (Hall) Rodgers Fair. He passed away on October 5, 2022, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Thomas was an amicable, compassionate and gentle soul who could light up a room with his presence alone. He was a caring and generous person who garnered mutual respect for anyone that he knew. Thomas had a great sense of humor and a dynamic work ethic, always putting his family first. Thomas often encouraged humanity to be the very best at whatever it was one chose to do.
Thomas had a lifelong love for basketball. He was a standout athlete at John Hersey High School, often emulating his favorite childhood player Magic Johnson. Thomas’ basketball prowess was so supreme, that it allowed him the opportunity to compete in the 1994 Slam Dunk Contest at the United Center. After graduating high school, Thomas attended Elgin Community College where he also worked and met his sweetheart Selena. Thomas was an all-star for Elgin Community College basketball team. In addition to basketball, he had a passion and a natural gift for playing poker and frequenting casinos. Thomas loved listening to music, walking his family dog, creating personalized slideshows and watching the same classic movies and TV shows.
Thomas is survived by his beloved Soulmate Selena; his loving children Nivia Rodgers and Elijah Rodgers; his joyful grandson Isaiah Michael Rodgers; his dear siblings Thomasina (Brian) Lee and Steven (Sheree) Rodgers; Cedric Lee, Nathan Fair and by his adored mother Gracie Rodgers Fair. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Thomas is preceded in death by his father Thomas Earl Rodgers Sr.
Visitation: Friday, October 21, 2022, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights and Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Glueckert Funeral Home, from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment Sunset Memorial Lawns, Northbrook.
