Ruth Elvira Wheeler, 99, was called to her heavenly rest at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights on October 3, 2021. Ruth was born on June 8, 1922 to Henry and Emma Hoeft at the family home in Arlington Heights, IL. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. Peter Lutheran Church. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1940 and worked at the First National Bank of Arlington Heights for many years.
Ruth was blessed with a loving family. She married Paul Wheeler, on February 11, 1950. She was blessed with two children, Gary of Fergus Falls, MN and Lynne Kronvold of Chino Valley, AZ.. Ruth is survived by her son Gary (Annette); her daughter Lynne (Ken); and her grandchildren Todd Wheeler, Erin Hopper Jones, John Wheeler, Mark Wheeler, Joshua Wheeler, and Kari (Jonathan) Eckhardt; and her 2 great granddaughters. She is preceded in death by her husband Paul, her sister Dorothy Philbin, her sister, Lorraine Dolinajec; and her parents.
One of her proudest accomplishments was working on the staff of a local newsletter entitled "My Buddy" that was distributed to area service men and women during World War II. The newsletter helped many connect with home life though stationed in faraway locations. Quilting was also a passion for Ruth. She quilted for many years with the St. Peter Ladies Aid and then continued to quilt baby blankets at Hearthstone Assisted Living.
Ruth lived her last 13 years in the Hearthstone Assisted Living Facility and the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. She greatly enjoyed painting and showing off her artwork to residents and staff. If there is one thing that she would want to be remembered for, it was her strong faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.
Memorial visitation Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 10:00 AM until the time of memorial service at 11:00 AM. Interment at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Home for the Aged both in Arlington Heights.
