Robert D. Overbeck, a cherished pillar of his community, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, at his home in Arlington Heights, IL. Born on August 31, 1931, in Chicago, IL, Robert's life was a testament to dedication, love, and generosity. He was a loving husband of 63 years to Maureen Overbeck, a relationship that stood as a beacon of unwavering commitment and joy.
The son of the late Charles H. and Marie F. Overbeck, Robert was a devoted family man, and proudly followed in the footsteps of his father as a second-generation pipefitter. His career was marked by a proud association with the Pipefitter’s Union Local 597. His work not only showcased his skill and handiwork, but also his steadfast reliability and commitment to excellence.
Robert was a dear father to Robert (Kelly) Overbeck, Michael (Beni) Overbeck, and Dyan (Robert) Bahary. He instilled in his children the values of hard work and selflessness that he lived by every day. As a proud grandfather to Joey, Tommy, Kaley, Ryan, Kerrigan, Leanna, Michael, Johanna, Morgan, Meredith, Lorun, and Anjorin, and great-grandfather to Aniyah, he imparted wisdom and laughter in equal measure. He was also a fond brother of the late Charles Howard Overbeck, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories.
Those who knew Robert would describe him as a man who was incredibly handy, loving, and generous. He enjoyed the company of his family and life long friends. He also enjoyed outings with the boys every Wednesday and for the lively breakfast gatherings with the cousins. His presence at these social events will be deeply missed.
Robert enjoyed his time at Lake Marie. He would spend hours playing washer toss games with his buddies. At many social gatherings he was often the last to leave.
His selflessness was most evident in the way he always put his friends and family's needs before his own. He was the epitome of a provider. His tireless work ethic and his ability to fix anything made him the go-to person in times of need.
As we bid farewell to Robert D. Overbeck, we remember a man whose life was filled with the joy of giving, the strength of character, and the warmth of companionship. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He has left an indelible mark on this world, one that will continue to inspire and guide us.
Robert's life will be celebrated by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. He leaves behind a legacy of love and an example of how to live a life filled with purpose, joy, and connection. His passing is not just a loss but also a reminder to cherish the time we have with our loved ones.
