Of New Orleans
Patricia “Sunny” Shannon passed away on November 2, 2021, at the age of 63. Originally from Arlington Heights, Illinois, she moved to New Orleans around 1980. She worked as the "Morning" Disc Jockey for local radio station WNOE adopting the "On Air" name "Sunny" In The Morning, until 1984. The name "Sunny" would stick with her for the rest of her life. She began work in the mortgage industry shortly after that. In 1990 she began a 31-year career with Eustis Mortgage Company as a Loan Officer, eventually becoming a vice president until her recent passing. Sunny won numerous awards within the industry and the company she so dearly loved.
She was a member and served as an officer for BNI, a national business networking association. As a child, she was awarded membership in "Junior Mensa", and was active in Girl Scouts of America. She would later serve as troop leader of her own daughter's Girl Scout troop for 5 years. Sunny was involved in several Charities in New Orleans, including The New Orleans Mission and Covenant House, both charities serving the needs of the homeless. Even in her charitable work, she was helping people to find a home. For over 30 years she was actively involved in Compassion International, an organization helping children in poverty, and has sponsored several children around the world. She attended Our Lady of Holy Cross College, where she achieved a Bachelor's in Social Counseling, and Tulane University, where she earned a Master's in Social Work. Sunny was an avid gardener. In her free time, you could always find Sunny either in her gardens or her greenhouse. Whether it was her houseplants, her flowers, her annual harvest of creole tomatoes and peppers, or her variety of citrus trees, she was always proud of the gardens that she and her daughter created.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Bennie Campbell; her daughter, Christian Grace Campbell, her step-son Nicholas Paul (Ashley Fenton) Campbell; her granddaughters, Layla Marie and Nia Grace Campbell, her sister Kathleen (Jim) Wohlgehagen, her brother Glenn Shannon; numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, in-laws and close friends, along with the hundreds of friends and associates in the business world.
She was preceded in death by her father Leslie Shannon, her mother Theresa Shannon; her brothers James and Mark Shannon, her sister Nancy Shannon and her sister-in-law Peggy Shannon.
