Of Schaumburg
Michael Philip Sommer was born on August 7, 1977 in Park Ridge, Illinois, to George and Annette (nee Leitner) Sommer. He died Thursday, January 9, 2020.
Michael Sommer loved life and immersed himself in all he did. A man of many interests, Michael was guided by his love of nature and the outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed kayaking and mountain biking in the forest preserves and trails throughout northern Illinois, sailing with friends on Lake Michigan, and walking the beaches in Illinois and Oregon. He also enjoyed tending to his aquariums, studying aerospace, and was known for his healthy lifestyle. The unifying thread in all of Mike’s interests was his love of photography. His professional photographs reflected his deep love of family, the outdoors, nature, and architecture.
As the IT Administrator for Sonic Manufacturing Corp, Michael worked with his father, two uncles and cousin for ten years. An important part of the family business, Mike’s responsibilities included ensuring internet security, workflow scheduling, and installing and configuring all software and hardware. He took great pride in personally fostering client relationships to ensure contract compliance.
Michael is survived by his loving parents and sisters, Kristen (Adam) Britt, and Kimberly (Richard) Paterala; his nephews, Jaxon Paterala, and Preston Britt; his niece, Lorelai Britt; his grandmothers, Viola Carroll, and Irene Sommer; his uncles, Gregory (Virlyn) Leitner, David (Diana) Leitner, Mark (Sarah) Sommer, and John Sommer; his aunt, Tammy Sommer; and his cousins, David (Marisa) Leitner, Leslie (Christopher) Schuh, Justin (Crystal) Devers, Nicholas Sommer, Chloe (Andrew) Dalbis, Michelle (Nicholas) Hall, and Alexis Sommer.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandfathers, Lester P. Leitner and Kenneth Carroll, and paternal grandfather, Frank Sommer.
A visitation is scheduled from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, January 17, 2020, at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois. Procession 10:30 am, Saturday, January 18, 2020, from Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. to St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine for 11:00 am Committal Service.
