Michael Lavelle was born June 4, 1964 in Pittsburgh, PA to James and Norma Perry Lavelle. He passed away peacefully on November 18, 2023 at his home in Long Grove, IL.
Michael grew up in the Pittsburgh area, where he shared countless memories with his nine siblings. He was an accomplished athlete with a love for basketball, football, and pole-vaulting. Some of his fondest memories included family vacations to Stone Harbor, NJ and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers. He attended Hampton High School, and eventually went on to graduate with a degree in Economics from Penn State University in 1987.
Upon graduating, he moved to Washington, D.C. to begin his career in sales. In 1989, Michael met Maureen, the love of his life, through mutual friends, and a lifelong romance was underway. Their relationship quickly blossomed, and the two were married in 1992. They relocated to Chicago for Michael to pursue an exciting opportunity with Getinge, a medical device sales company. He quickly established himself as a high achieving sales rep and was recognized for being one of the top revenue contributors in Getinge’s history. Michael was very proud to have recently reached his 30-year anniversary with the company in August.
He had many hobbies and interests including golf, basketball, and hiking. He was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, and loved discovering new music.
Everyone who met Michael knew how much he valued his family. He was a devoted husband to Maureen for more than 31 years, and a wonderful father to his two children, Meghan and Logan. Whether it was coaching baseball and basketball or attending dance recitals, being involved in their lives was his number one priority. He was a role model and mentor to those who met him and was always supportive of his children’s endeavors. When Meghan and Logan went off to college, Michael was a proud Ohio State Dad, aside from when the Buckeyes played against his alma mater.
He never missed an opportunity to gather with family and friends, and many knew him for his quick-wit and humility. His genuine positivity and excitement for life brought out the best in those around him.
Michael is survived by his wife Maureen Lavelle; his children Meghan (Preston) McKee and Logan Lavelle; his siblings Nancy (late Glenn Pavone) Lavelle, Beth Lavelle, Ronald (Mary Ann) Kennedy, Jr., Bonita Lavelle, Donald (Barbara) Kennedy, Kevin (Lisa) Lavelle, Jeffrey (Kristin) Kennedy, and Karen Lavelle; and by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents James Lavelle and Norma Lavelle Kennedy, Ronald Kennedy Sr, his Aunt Margaret Sullivan, Uncle Louis (Buck) Sullivan, and sister Amy Lavelle.
