John Francis Fitzpatrick, many knew him best as Fitz, was born March 9, 1937, in Chicago, IL to Francis J. and Anna L. (nee Spitznagel) Fitzpatrick. Fitz’s long and joyful life peacefully ended on July 4, 2023.

Fitz, a graduate of Loyola University, started his sales career with Dixie Marathon in Chicago, a city he truly loved. As his career advanced, he and his family spent time in Minnesota, Wisconsin, New Jersey and finally back to Illinois where he and his beloved wife, Therese, retired to a life of travel and relaxation.

As a member of St. Edna’s since 1976, Fitz and Therese were generous supporters of the community they embraced. Fitz enjoyed being a member of the St. Edna’s golf league and was a member of St. George (Evanston) High school Saints and Sinners.

Sports, specifically, Chicago sports teams brought him great happiness . . . seeing his Cubs win the World Series was a great moment in his life.

Fitz is survived by his children John (Cindy) Fitzpatrick, Michael (Donna) Fitzpatrick, Brian Fitzpatrick and Kathleen (Craig) Harding; his grandchildren John Fitzpatrick, Shannon Fitzpatrick, Amanda Fitzpatrick, Sean Fitzpatrick, Taylor (Thomas) Smith and Brennan Harding; his sister Kathleen Fitzpatrick as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his spouse Therese (nee Cummings) Fitzpatrick as well as his parents.

Memorial Visitation on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, from 9:00am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00am at St. Edna Catholic Church 2525 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Interment will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine.
