

James Patrick Smith was born August 7, 1924 in Chicago to Arthur and Julia (nee McGuire) Smith. He died June 14, 2015 at Addolorata Villa in Wheeling.James grew up the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago, and joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. On returning from the war, he worked as a plumber and as a plumbing inspector for the City of Chicago while also attending Northwestern University. He graduated with a bachelor"s degree in business in 1953. He then worked as a regional sales manager for a plumbing manufacturer until his retirement.He married Frances King in 1949 in Chicago.James enjoyed spending time with his family at their cottage on Victory Heights on Lac Courte Oreilles near Hayward, Wis.James is survived by his children Michael (Rubye) Smith, Maureen (Thomas) Munz, Jamie (John Altom) Smith, Matthew (Debbie) Smith, Timothy (Julie) Smith and Deneen (Frank Calzavara) Smith; his 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.James is preceded in death by his wife Frances (nee King); his brother Dr. George (Margie) Smith and by his parents.Visitation from until 3-8 PM, Thursday June 18, 2015 at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., (4 blocks south of Palatine Rd.) Arlington Heights. Prayers 9:15 AM, Friday June 19, 2015, at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., to St. Mary Catholic Church 10 N.
