Huda Abdula Yacu

Born on Nov 14, 1934 to Jamil Hakim & Mary Dori Khayat in Mosul Iraq. Growing up she attended the “Queen Alia Women’s College” in Baghdad, where she graduated with honors and then took on teaching sewing at a trade school in Mosul Iraq.

In 1958 Huda married George Aziz Yacu in Mosul after meeting on a school field trip to the oil field, where she took her students. Together they have three children; Saad, Aziz, and Shirin, who live with their spouses & children in Chicago Illinois, USA.

Following their Marriage in 1960, Huda & George moved to Baghdad Iraq. She started a new career in teaching sewing, at the “College of Home Economies and Art” until her retirement. After which she started her own successful business in custom tailoring and alterations.

In 2003, Huda & George immigrated and settled in Greenville, South Carolina. She started a new career by opening an alteration shop “Laura’s Alterations” in Greenville. Huda retired in 2013 and moved to Chicago to be close to her children.

Huda, born Catholic, was very religious and never missed a Sunday mass until she was bedridden. Huda continued to get communion every Sunday by her son-in-law Yokhana. Huda always prayed the St. Rita Novena and never missed any of the celebration mass.

Huda is preceded in death by her husband George, her parents Jamil and Mary, her brother Behnam.

Huda is survived by her children Saad (Ayser), Aziz (Hanan), and Shirin (Yokhana); her grandson George; her granddaughters Laura, Emily, Ranya & Ava; her brother Moaid, her sisters Sara & Maysoon; and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
