Evelyn (known to most by Evie) was born on May 6, 1926 to John and Gudrun (Undem) Ness. Her early years were spent in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago and the family later moved to the Northwest suburbs. Evie graduated as valedictorian from Palatine High School (class of 1943) and then worked for several years in bookkeeping.
In 1947 she married the late James Millay Jr. and they settled in Arlington Heights to raise their family, moving to a home they built on State Rd in 1950. She was most recently a resident of Church Creek Senior Living in Arlington Heights.
Throughout her life, Evie was a loving mother and a dedicated homemaker who supported her family’s interests and passions. The Millay house was a place where friends and family gathered and were welcomed by Evie’s generous warmth and hospitality.
Evie had an unwavering faith and strength which was demonstrated by how she lived her life. She always had a warm inviting smile, a pleasant greeting and the sweetest laugh. If all could take a lesson from how Evie approached life, the world would be a better place. She was truly one of a kind.
Evelyn was the beloved wife of the late James Millay Jr; loving mother of Kathleen (Daniel) Jackson, James (Sandy) Millay, Kristine Castella, Michael (Theresa) Millay, Timothy (Sherry) Millay and the late David Millay; cherished grandmother of Jack (Sonya) Castella, Christopher (Jennifer) Mack, Amy (Richard) Rogers, David Millay, Michael Millay, Daniel (Kassel) Millay and Matthew Millay; great-grandmother (fondly known as Bestamor) of Sarina, Kyle, Trey, Adam, Elijah, Lance, Landon, and Corinne, and dear sister of Carol (Corky) Erickson and the late Gladys Hill and Joy Kvalvog.
Due to the changing events regarding the spread of the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) the celebration of Evie’s life will be postponed. As soon as we are able, we will provide the new date and time. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Salvation Army, 615 Slaters Lane, Alexandria, VA 22314 is appreciated.
