Dorothy Jacobs, 79, of Arlington Heights was born January 22, 1934 in Evanston, IL to the stalwart German family of Alfred and Anna (nee Sieg) Dittrich and passed away peacefully October 15, 2013. Dorothy was the patient wife of Harry E. “Jake” Jacobs; resourceful and proud mother of Barbara Tannenbaum, Julie Jacobs, Kevin (Susan) Jacobs, Susan (Ian Harris) Jacobs, Sally (Jim) Rosson and Mary Beth (Fred) Berns; creative and down-to-earth grandmother of Steven, Kimberly, Cole and Lauren; loving sister of Mary M. (late Robert) Gasser and the late John Dittrich and Alfred (Lorraine) Dittrich and aunt to many nieces and nephews. When Dorothy joined a small group at church, she somehow became not the leader, but the essential catalyst of depth and longevity. She spearheaded action projects for Christian Family Movement for over 40 years. She helped found the funeral luncheon ministry, supported every weekend of Christ Renews His Parish, shared scripture and champagne with Bibles and Bubbles and recycled funeral flowers to decorate area nursing homes. Visitation will be Thursday October 17, 2013 from 4-7 PM at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home 2000 E. Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights. Prayers will be said on Friday, October 18 at 8:45 AM at the funeral home and proceed to Our Lady of the Wayside Church 440 S. Mitchell Street, Arlington Heights for funeral mass at 9:30 AM. Interment will be in St. Mary Church Cemetery in Buffalo Grove. Contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to Arlington Area CFM (c/o Our Lady of the Wayside) to support the book project she initiated nine days before she died or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
