Donald was born in Chicago on December 1, 1947, to parents Theodore and Helena (nee Gutowsky) Doering. While working at First National Bank in high school, he met and fell in love with Linda Pinnau. The couple were married on August 10, 1968, and celebrated fifty years of marriage before Linda’s death on July 1, 2019.
Donald was a loving husband and wonderful father, a true family man. He enjoyed cooking for his family and was an avid reader. He grew up spending his summers in Northern Minnesota along the Gunflint Trail where he developed a love for the outdoors and especially fishing. He passed that passion down to his children and grandson. After many years away, he returned to the Gunflint Trail in 2020 for what would become an annual fishing trip that was the highlight of his year and the family members that joined him. His life was marked by a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures of life: the great outdoors, a picture worthy bass, a good cigar and above all else, time spent with his family. Donald was cherished by his family and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Donald is survived by his children, Bryan (fiancé Nyla Patzner) Doering, and Stacey (Ryan) Cooke, his grandson, George, and his niece, Holly Flannigan. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda Doering, and his brothers, Theodore Doering, and Ernest Doering.
