

Dennis Lee Vander Kuur passed away peacefully at home, April 05, 2025. Dennis was born January 30, 1946, in Flint, Michigan to John and Lillian Vander Kuur. Dennis was the beloved husband (52 years) of Cindy (nee: Weiss). He was the loving father of Eric (Larissa), Brian and Alex Vander Kuur and cherished grandfather of Paisley and Cora Vander Kuur. Dennis was a dear brother of Lillian, Laura and the late John and Greg. He was a fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
In his younger years, Dennis raced stock cars and enjoyed riding motorcycles with his family. He spent a summer in Europe with his high school friend, visiting many countries and attending the '24 Hours of Le Mans' race. Dennis served in the US Army during the Vietnam War (1967-68) as a member of the 119th Assault Helicopter Company, serving as a Crew Chief Door Gunner in a Huey UH-1B Helicopter at Camp Holloway, Pleiku, Vietnam. After his tour, he completed his service in Germany (1968-69). Following his military service, he engaged in numerous aeronautical hobbies, including owning and piloting his own Cessna airplane and joining the local 'Chicagoland Circle Cutters' Model Airplane club. He built and flew several model airplanes and competed in regional and national competitions. He spent significant time bonding with his sons through various sports, including baseball, basketball, soccer, and hockey. He enjoyed family vacations visiting many U.S. states and playing cards with his extended family and friends. In his retirement, he took pleasure in walking the botanical gardens with Cindy and his sons.
A celebration of life for Dennis will be held Sunday, May 18, 2025 at 1:00 PM with military honor guard and service at 2:00 PM, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 East Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
