Carol Jean Kelm, a cherished soul whose warmth and dedication left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she encountered, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, at the age of 73 in Arlington Heights, IL. Born on May 8, 1951, in Chicago, IL. Cherished daughter of Ted and Eleanor Ochwat. Carol's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and the joy she found in simple pleasures.

Loving wife of 25 years to David Kelm. Cherished mother of Ryan (the late Becky) Hollister. Proud grandmother of Karly Hollister, Erin Hollister, and Cayden Hollister. Great-grandmother of Quincey and Logan. Dear sister of Ronald (the late Marianne) Ochwat and Karen Allen. Carol is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Carol's professional journey was characterized by her commitment to community and service. She managed a local Pizza Hut, where her leadership and kindness turned customers into friends. Her dedication to the younger generation shone brightly during her tenure with Arlington Heights District 25, where she served as a crossing guard supervisor and a lunch lady. Carol was affectionately known as "Lunch Lady Small," a moniker that reflected both her stature and the immense love she had for the children she served.

Beyond her work, Carol's passions painted a picture of a woman who treasured life's moments and the connections she made. Her little dog Sammy was her constant companion, embodying the unconditional love she had for all living creatures. Carol was a patriot at heart, always supporting veterans and first responders with unwavering respect and gratitude for their service to her beloved country.

Carol's family was the center of her world, especially her grandchildren, for whom she provided endless care and support. She was the cornerstone of the family, often seen helping out in any way she could, her presence a comforting and stabilizing force.

Vacations in Antioch, IL, held a special place in Carol's heart. Her family's trailer near the lake was a haven of happiness and relaxation, where laughter mingled with the gentle lapping of the water, and memories were made to last a lifetime.

A connoisseur of mental challenges, Carol loved word games and solving puzzles, her mind always engaged and sharp. Her adventurous spirit was evident in her love for driving her truck and zipping around on her moped, embracing the freedom and thrill each journey offered.

Carol's faith was a guiding light in her life. A devout Catholic, her love for Jesus Christ was profound and unwavering. She lived her faith through acts of kindness, compassion, and an ever-present readiness to help those in need.

An exceptional cook, Carol's culinary skills brought comfort and joy to family gatherings and friendly get-togethers. Her recipes were crafted with love, each dish a reflection of her desire to nurture and delight those she cared for.

Carol Jean Kelm's legacy is one of love, service, and joy. Her life was a beautiful mosaic of the roles she cherished—servant to her community, guardian of children, patriot, matriarch, adventurer, faithful believer, and friend. Though she has left this earthly realm, the light of her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. As we bid farewell to Carol, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared and the lessons she imparted through her example of a life well-lived.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation in Carol’s honor be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
