Carol-Jean L. Lewis was born on May 15, 1936, in Chicago, IL to Raymond and Marie (nee Breisch) Hecker. She died on April 10, 2023, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights surrounded by her loving family.

Carol-Jean was a homemaker who was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing games with them and would never miss a recital, graduation or school event. She was a strong, caring woman who always put others before herself. She had a wonderful sense of humor and could brighten any room she walked into. Her laugh was contagious, and she often had a twinkle in her eye.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, and many groups within the church, including the Kupples Klub, crafting club and book club. She made necklaces and bookmarks out of the church bulletins and gave them to friends and family to help support the church’s youth groups.

Her interests and hobbies included necklace making, gardening, reading, playing solitaire and cards, and attending church. She looked forward to game nights on Fridays with friends and family. She loved baking pies for holidays. She also enjoyed traveling with fellow couples, going on trips and cruises in Europe and the Caribbean. She loved all kinds of flowers, cardinals and attending concerts and plays with her husband.

Carol-Jean is survived by her spouse of almost 61 years Charles Lewis; her children David (Lisa) Lewis, Richard Lewis and Sharon Hanssen; her grandchildren Scott Lewis, Jacob Lewis, Olivia Hanssen, Jack Hanssen, Mattie Lewis and Charlie Lewis; she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother Raymond (late Carrie) Hecker and her sister Doris (late John) Moore.

Visitation Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 2:00pm until 6:00pm at Glueckert Funeral Home 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004.
